i know the feeling DX people do the same to me on DA more though XP i remember the first time i posted my sona and someone was all "OMG YOU STOLE SYBERS CHARACTER!!!!!!!" i even remember someone saying about another one of my characters that syber had the same ear markings, and yet another one saying that they had the same HAIR.
it looks nothing like your sona to me, dude. its another coyote with the same colors and thats really it. my sona has those colors too and i created him before i even heard about you 8U http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3952445/ on deviantart there are tons of yotes with the opposite colors so i wanted to miix it up by uising...*gasp* BLUE.

Syber has Black blue and green ears, Senti has Black White Blue and Yellow ears.

Syber has predominately Yellow legs while Senti's are nearly half Blue, half White.
The markings are totally different as well.

Mm. I don't think the similarities are going to confuse anyone, anytime soon, and I don't foresee any spats about whose came first. It's a big fandom, color patterns will sometimes look a bit close, and hell, sometimes people may outright borrow (swipe) little elements like color patterns.

Syber doesnt own colours, senti is obviously not a charecter thief so i dont see any reason to change her charecter, which she has had for a while and has just changed her design a bit, for someone else. There wouldnt be any problem if syber's charecter wasnt as popular as she is tbh.
I know this is old.. but yes it is necessary to be immature :3 And for most furs to think they're being super witty and smarter than others by making a comment followed my some sort of winky face ;D

Oh, so what now - are the colors blue, yellow and white copyrighted to this Syber? Senti's overall design looks nothing like Syber all of the markings are done differently. So people need to shit the front door before I come over to their house and burn it down while their entire family is sleeping then proceed to nail the family dog to the front door; skin their cat wear its pelt, and then become considered a skinwalker. WHILE at the same time hiting a crack rock off a chipped, and broken crack pipe with no copper brail.

Now, that's not to say you stole the idea, but from an outsider's point of view, it does seem very coincidental and almost if Syber's design was an influence on you. But again, I only know what I know from looking at this as a neutral 3rd party.

wow so using generic colors and markings found in nature is wrong? well i guess we're all screwed. Also, i didnt toss a refsheet at anyone but you just showing you that there are many different ways that a character can be made using the same colors and species. they all look VERY different from eachother. that comparison just made them look even MORE different than before.
I don't really know who the person is with this fursona, but I just had to stop and say something here. I am aware of syber though, saw them plenty at RF. This isn't really defense, so much as simple outside observation. You offered a subjective opinion, and I'm offering my own take here. You make some interesting points, so I want to counterpoint them. Playing devil's advocate, if you will.

Let's go over this, just for a moment of subjectivity. I both agree and disagree with some of your points here for the following reasons:
Species: Sure, same species. I don't feel this a good point to make however, simply on the sheer number of other coyotes out there, so I have to say this individual point isn't relevant to me personally.
Color Combination: When I see blue and yellow I don't think syber; I think Ikea. Just sayin'.
Style or(sic) Markings: A G-clef and a splotch are two very separate entities. A single stripe on each leg is one of the most common tattoo patterns to be had. See: Aleut Tattoos. As for fur patterning; It's also fairly common among colorful furries. Blue and yellow itself isn't the least bit rare, nor recent.
A similarity in the drawing style: One is digital coloring and drawing with very inconsistent anatomy(no offense intended, senti), one is hand drawn and colored with consistent anatomy. I see a big lack of similarity there.
I personally see a similarity in raw elements, but no direct inspiration and indeed some blatant diversion of similarities interspersed with a handful of coincidences. At least enough for me to not be under suspicion.

Why? So these people can harass someone about using a similar palette? You can't copyright a color palette, and these two have had a history of harassing people in the past. The best thing to do is to block them, because obviously they've got nothing else to hold onto but to bitch at people.
That's not always true, dude. I know I personally rant about things in protected entries on LJ/ect without expecting people to actually to act upon it.
I agree that this could have been handled in a much more civil and less dramatic way, but it seems like this is turning into a crusade against Syber more than anything else.
Personally, I think the two artists should handle it in private and let it be. Personally, If I were Senti, I'd delete this submission and resubmit after the drama dies down.

There's always just hiding the messages. Personally, I wouldn't block "trolls" n the like. Because they'd comment or note, converse privately over matters. But when blocked they always resort to making public journals bashing you out publically and getting their fan base to join their brigade. There's always the defense of saying "why couldn't you come to me in private to resolve this issue instead of..." But when you block them you lose that defense. But of course, all those fags could have done that in the first place IF they really wanted to resolve and issue.
Oh, that's interesting, do you have a pretty strong connection with your heritage? Like, are various parts of it pretty incorporated in your everyday life? I'm just a mutt, so I can't say I have any strong pull to look into each of the different trickles of blood in me. :P
Also just to mention, while going on a more common/colloquial use of the term, I believe the word tribal in reference to visual motifs refers more to the aesthetics of tribal Polynesia (mainly the Maori), rather than just any aboriginal culture. Which is kind of silly, but that's how words evolve <_>

Unfortunately, not much.
I did a fair amount when I was a kid, and as I grew up, everything started getting left behind. I'd like to get back into it, sometime. I really loved the storytelling, and sewing little cloths with red and black killer whales and stuff on them. :P And the fish. We always got to eat lots of great fish. The only stuff I ever get now is that frozen heat-it-up-in-the-oven crap. e-e
Anyway, I've got more than a bit in me too, but that part of my heritage is the only thing I've ever done anything with.

It's on FD_2. She posted this submission on her twitter, calling it a "Problem". then calling herself the next husky. Ask Koze. It's passive aggressive, but her intent is very clear.
My issue with her stems from the fact she pulled this exact shit with me on a character that wasn't even HERS, and I do not want her doing it to some other user.

Even still, she's not outright making claims of theft, calling copyright or doing anything of the things she's been accused of. Personally, I can understand her feelings about the character because it does have some fairly distinct similarities and it might make me uncomfortable if I were her.
It just seems like this is getting to be more about attacking Syber than the actual character design anymore, if you ask me.
Also, her Twitter is "friends locked"; She's not making public displays out of it nor is she using FD_2. If we're going to start ostracizing people for talking to their friends, then I think we're going too far.

I can see where she can be slightly uncomfortable, but her reputation is not helping her right now.

If she wasn't trying to cause problems, she should have have labeled the submission a problem and told everyone on twitter she could about it. Seems... wrong if you ask me. Well considering that shes done this about a month ago to me, id say she didnt change much. and so far ive been telling those people to back off and wasnt hostile towards syber at all in my reply toward her. the only thing thats bugging me is the fact that she linked a bunch of people without talking to Senti first or even considering the fact that this character doesnt look at all like a ripoff and that possibly the colors and species just threw her off.

I can see how some people may jump to say that they are similar.. But shit, they aren't exactly the same. Only things that are are the eyes and pawpads. Oh and the white underbelly. You know, there was a pokemon-looking fursuiter at MFF who looked honestly, just like you, IMO, except had red reflectors on his cheek. Characters arent copyrighted unless they go through the steps, and a copyright enforcement agency would look at all of your examples and laugh when and if they were presented to him saying "ok kids, let's learn to share our crayons with one another", since you can't copyright a color or pattern. I want to preface that I'm not meaning to "feed into the drama" with my comment, but I'd simply like to make a point...
On the note of "style biting": Couldn't one arguably make a comment about how your "boats" look almost exactly like Latin Vixen's goats? I know that was brought up at one point, and a whole bunch of drama erupted as a result from people jumping in and calling you out on it. I'm aware that everything resolved itself in the end, but you didn't just "start over" after that and it didn't stop you from creating more "boats."
With that in mind, even if Senti was inspired by Syber/Flux/Gator/whoever, doesn't it seem ironic that you would be calling her out on it?

What could have been settled with a note or a private discussion turned into you starting with a "This makes me uncomfortable." and having your coat tail surfers running into someones comments and blasting away. Lets step back and look at this persons page. Now I don't know this person, but I see less then a 1000 views and a fur that lives out of the country seems like good grounds to call this an accident. In my opinion we shouldn't even have to call it that. As I'm sure my previous paragraph proved, People have been using those color combos forever. As far as coyotes? Well they've been a staple in the animation business for years. So great, you managed to take a common character animal and slap some basic colors onto it. Cool! Happy for ya. Doesn't mean that the next person that does something similar should be subjected to your judgements.
The manner at which you went about handling this says that you are insecure and in many ways, downright douchey. This just goes to further demonstrate the level of professionalism that Made Fur You and Co provides.

What could have been settled with a note or a private discussion turned into you starting with a "This makes me uncomfortable." and having your coat tail surfers running into someones comments and blasting away. Lets step back and look at this persons page. Now I don't know this person, but I see less then a 1000 views and a fur that lives out of the country seems like good grounds to call this an accident. In my opinion we shouldn't even have to call it that. As I'm sure my previous paragraph proved, People have been using those color combos forever. As far as coyotes? Well they've been a staple in the animation business for years. So great, you managed to take a common character animal and slap some basic colors onto it. Cool! Happy for ya. Doesn't mean that the next person that does something similar should be subjected to your judgements.
The manner at which you went about handling this says that you are insecure and in many ways, downright douchey. This just goes to further demonstrate the level of professionalism that Made Fur You and Co provides.
Yeah. I understand people want so much to stay unique. No one is gonna yell at a grey and white husky because their too plain *eyerolls* But I've been the only thylacine that is grey so if another one comes around.. I would feel bad. But there's nothing I can do about it right? So to whoever says "this makes me uncomfortable", all we can say is "I'm sorry you feel that way".
Of course, in these kinds of cases there are always going to be discrepancies in terms of where we draw the line for originality. One could obviously tell if a fursona is a copy if said fursona only has a few/insignificant distinguishable traits that would differ from the original (e.g. only a couple spots added somewhere on the body where the original does not have). In this particular case however, I feel that the overall appearance seems unique enough (in comparison to all the other fursonas linked). Regardless, with so many fursonas out there, there is only so much you can do with colors and fur patterns to make your fursona distinguishable from the rest (assuming they are of the same species).

Seem to me the fanboys and haters are making this a bigger deal than it really is. It went from being about the markings of a character to people personal dislike of Syber, Balto, etc. I don't get why everyone (excluding the artist and Syber) is getting so heated over something so petty. :p
It was due to the manner that they went about it. It seemed like a gang up bullying. As I had previously mentioned, it could have been mentioned in private to the person. If you REALLY want to help someone and be civil, you let them save face.

But did it really take 4+ snide remarks to get the point across? Rather than the person who was involved handling it, 99.9% of the fanclub had to come by and lift their legs over the situation.
If you drew a character or even a sketch that resembled someone else's unknowingly and then they dropped by with all their friends and left craptastic comments all over your submission rather than taking it up with you in private, how would you feel?

I totally agree. I try not to attack people outright, but here some statement of facts was in order. She needs to talk to her friends then about how to react to these issues when they arise. It does look quite suspicious when she comments followed by balto followed by the fan club.

People tend to falsely issue blame without really taking a moment to assess a situation. I've seen this scenario over and over in the last seven years between DA and FA. An artist gets popular based on what they draw; someone critiques their art, and fantards attack. The artist in question usually has no involvement in the situation and yet they get the blame and labels for the actions of others. Artists can't always be held responsible for the actions of other unless they directly issue a call to arms, and Syber did no such thing.
Point being; Often times when an artist makes a statement or leaves a vague comment, fans tend to rise up and try to white knight on behalf of the artist despite the fact that may not have been the artist's will. Remember, anything you say on the internet is easily misunderstood, misconstrued and misinterpreted and can, and will, be used against you. If someone sees the word "this is a problem" and see it as an open invite to rage war, that's their own prerogative.

In this instance, I did see some similarities, and gladly pointed them out without making outright accusations. I stand by my statement that I don't believe Senti ripped off the character, but I do feel that there was some influence from Syber's design. Which is understandable (with regards to the ref sheet posted). But as far as Syber, even the smallest actions taken by Syber could have been misinterpreted as a call to arms by the fanboys. Something as small as a journal post or a Twitter message could have sent the wrong message. Unfortunately free speech without consequence is the first casualty of a fanclub. I hope everyone can sum this up with a lesson learned. It would be horribly disappointing to see it happen again.

A couple markings here and there don't belong to anyone. Even a mish-mash of three or four different characters should be taken as more of a compliment to the mimicked artists and less of an insult. Imitation is the biggest form of flattery.
The picture isn't traced (which would be the biggest issue), the markings are not exact to anyone else's character overall (as an entire design, not as bits and pieces), and it's not directly copied.
I remember getting upset because someone stole an old tail striping design I used to use on my 'sona...but you know what happened? I got over it!
As long as nothing is being copied, traced etc... I don't see the big deal. Yes, it's similar to other people's characters but inspiration is nothing to be ashamed of. If you were inspired by other people then it's obvious that you were pleased with the look of their character and wanted to create something similar.

Three things:
1) Primary colors can not be under copyright, nor can secondary or any other type of color.
2) If you have a copyright on the design for your fursona, get the paperwork on it and provide it if you are going to call something a similarity and make a big stink about it. Otherwise, your bitching holds no water and makes you look like an idiot. Put up or shut up.
3) Why post this in the open, all you are doing is causing a big drama fest. Way to go Syber, causing undue drama. All you had to do was message senti and ask about it.... but instead of doing that you make a snarky comment.
