Gidis at Work
The entire station needed retrofitting, it had to be at least four decades out of date. The old shipyard had once belonged to Frask Interstellar Shipwrights before it went bankrupt, and sat abandoned in the hands of the Dekorian Government for just about half a century. It was unfit for military use due to its size, and too expensive to repurpose and rebuild as one, but at the same time what WAS there, while old, was just barely worth too much to sell off or demolish. They'd get around to it... eventually. At least, that had been the plan.
Avin-Avery, the avian corporation at the forefront of elite and luxurious private market ship design had other plans. The site was perfect for their purposes, a staging and proving grounds for their newest line of space yachts. It took a lot of palm-greasing and backroom handshakes, but eventually the megacorp got their way, and the Dekorian Presiding Government got a nice, fat paycheck. However, buying the rights was just a small part of the battle, now the place needed a lot of TLC, and that's where the Gidi's came in.
Atzel had been one of the first who'd signed onto the project, but soon entire tribes of Gidi had followed suit. This was their kind of work, a total rehaul and upgrade of old tech into new, all the way from the engineering specs to the IT infrastructure. How better to worship Quetzecoatl, their benevolent AI god, than to put their efforts into a worthy goal like this? The most advanced non-military shipyard in the Starscape, designed by Avians, constructed and brought to life by Gidi.
The sounds of buzzsaws grinding off at the other end of the hanger, cutting through old flay-steel pipelines full of defunct cables, echoed into the lizards ears. No one had bothered to turn the work fans on, the morning was gorgeous everyone in this hanger was a gidi, used to tropical climates. Outside the sound of heavy-load vehicles and hovering aircraft filtered in as well, creating a strangely harmonic symphony of industrial sounds that helped Atzel focus on the job at hand. He didn't even need the lights anymore now that the sun was up, casting gentle orange rays onto his slender, topless form. Like most of his kind, the lizard preffered to wear nothing above the waist, it just felt more comfortable, and besides how were other Gidi supposed to know what tribe he belonged to if they couldn't see his clan pain?
As Atzel turned his screwdriver one more tick counter-clockwise, the status light on the old Fire Prevention System mainframe board turned from green to blue, and the happy reptile flipped his tool in his hand. These old systems were proving easy to dismantle and recycle, and with the fire safety system down they could finally bring in some blowtorches to cut new through-ways into the guts of ths hanger. Atzel used his tail to put the screwdriver back in his bag before getting to work taking out each of the countless cords and wires still attached to the mainframe box itself.
One down, now he just had to do all the other protection systems in the hanger. They'd be beating their time-frame by an entire year at the rate they were going, in fact if he got all this work done quickly, perhaps he'd have time to get lunch with that really handsome dragon foreman he'd seen walking around earlier...

A gorgeous pic done by my friendo Plive showing one Atzel in his natural habitat, working on fancy schmancy tech stuff~ I wanted to do a little "day in the life" story showing off the casual side of the Starscape, and how things tend to look and run on a regular basis! Hope you enjoy~

...you know, there's something kinda "sus" about this image, but I can't place my finger on it...
