Ninjara was also one of the earliest female characters that I ever took notice of, partially because of her design but mainly because of her story, which evolved quite impressively from the basic villainous sidekick to a sympathetic multi-faceted character. She was so capable and strong that she actually had her own spin off run in Furrlough after the Archie TMNT comic book series was cancelled. Unfortunately due to real life commitments the artist and writer for the spinoff never went very far with her story and it remains in limbo years later.

Oh yes. I actually first started reading the Archie series coincidentally when her character was introduced and every month that the book came out I would check to see if she was in it and that alone would decide whether I'd buy it. That Moon-Eyes story was the perfect culmination of everything that was awesome both about her character and the Archie series as a whole.
So far as I know Usagi Yojimbo himself was the only character from that universe to make any appearances within TMNT. Ninjara I believe only ever made any appearance within the Archie TMNT comic and then the Furrlough spinoff. Makes me now wonder if she was created specifically for the Archie TMNT series and if not what story appearances she had prior to that.
