The comic pretty much explains things. I'm behind in my comics buffer and I have a mountain of work to do in order to prepare for my presentation in a few weeks, so in order to buy myself some time, I'm having to drop back to three comics a week instead of six. This means that "Carry On" will be updating here on FA on Fridays for the forseeable future.
I am looking forward to giving my panel on "Hyenas, Real And Imaginary" at Anthrocon. It's going to be a talk about how I go about using research on real hyenas to create my comic strip world--mostly about how to mine reality for humor. It will be illustrated with an accompanying slide show of my comics.
I've never done anything like this before, so this is going to be an adventure. Kind of like going off to become the ruler of a mythical kingdom. I hope you'll find the time to come see me crash and burn--er, come see me at Anthrocon on July 2!

"Wait, what? She can't do this to me!"
I think you'll find this little escapade will help prepare you for the Next Stage, whatever it may be... I know you won't do the kind of silly stuff another cartoonist I watched in the early days did. He suddenly decided he HAD to go back and redraw and color all of his early work. Before he did any fresh work. He took so long the website he posted on went away...

I am never interested in wasting time rehashing the past. The only corrections I'd make would be to re-draw Fred in his very first appearance, because he looks like a completely different character, and to remove references to Kathy and Sandy wearing wigs, rather than having rooted hair and no breasts. At the time I was going for a more "real-animal" angle, but when I started working on the Rackenroon story, it made more sense for them to have rooted hair and actual boobs.
I was re-reading the Arthrocon arc last night, and the artwork is "the same but different." Art is an evolution. Redrawing the earlier strips would be erasing reality. It's good for a person who hopes to put together a book, especially if the art style changed dramatically, but I feel that what's done is done.

Close. The. Back. Door.
I go back and look at my older writing, or even the original story that spawned most of what I've posted here (and posted only clips of it) and I see where I've grown and matured. I might eventually clean up the novel (I doubt it would ever sell) and post it in chapters here. But redo it? What would I learn?

I'm still reminded of this comic when someone talks about hyenas: https://www.litterboxcomics.com/birth-stories/
There's an episode of The Cosby Show where Cliff Huxtable dreams that volcanic spores have caused 11 million men to suddenly become pregnant--including Cliff, his two sons-in-law, and his son Theo (the unwed father.) His son-in-law Martin, a Navy lieutenant, tries to convince them that, as a proud fighting man of the United States armed services (who looks like he's carrying twins), he will not give in to pain--then shrieks and collapses when the first contraction hits.
They all go into labor at once and, at the hospital, meet one of their neighbors (played by Wallace Shawn), who has just given birth and is relating the trauma of the event. "--AND WHEN I THINK OF WHERE IT CAME OUT OF--!!!!" he groans as he is wheeled away to the recovery room.
I looked at my Husband. "Hyenas," I said.
