For my costume, my attempt at making a Rifle that would be both impressive and yet fake enough that any 'real' gun-nut would at best giggle and shake their head.
It sports a 1 inch PVC barrel, carved Pine stock with a Red Mahogany Stain. Plastic 'brass' plating along with a Trigger guard and hammer salvaged from a flintlock pistol and scope both from a Buck-store pirate toy set.
What do you think folks?

Watch out for the Security Nuts... While a gun-nut like yours truly will go, "Yeah, no.", someone who doesn't know jack...
To tell you a story, when I went to GenCon, a guy I was with bought a Colt M1860 Army revolver reproduction for $5 on E-Bay. He didn't trust it for shooting, but figured it'd be a great costume item.
He pulled it apart (It comes apart normally), and kept just the trigger, hammer, and pistol grip. The cylinder (The part that holds the bullets) and the the barrel (The part where the bullets travel down) were cast aside, and then a piece of black PVC Piping was electrical taped to the gun. In the holster, it looked real. Drawn, only an idiot would figure it was a real gun.
We met an idiot. He had a security badge.

*shakes head and chuckles*
Actually, that's a pretty good looking toy. Well done!
WRT an 1860 Army, according to federal law, it's not even a firearm since it is a black powder only item. Go figure.
I've seen those fired, they are pretty good, but for Cap and Balls, I prefer the 1858 Remmington. Got two of them. Well, reproductions, but they are cool.
Still, when push comes to shove, for a revolver, I'll go with one of my Single Action Army's. :)
