The Hebernaklian empire at its peak (1850 > 1914)
The decade-long wars of the Three Empires had just ended in early 1843 and, emerging in a favorable position after much tribulation and bloody trials, Hebernakel was entering a golden age.
All throughout history, the road to dominance in this region was harsh. Beavers built their kingdom around the river Hiber; once the fertile and watery valley land was unified after centuries of rivalry with Ottrakel, kingdom of the otters, it rised rapidly as a regional power. In the end, control over much of the rivers in this vast area, derived from beavers' ancient mastery of dam-building, and the alliances/vassalage it enabled it to form and maintain, allowed Hebernakel to prevail even in the face of difficult odds and military defeats, and influence the structure of the imperial system to fulfil its own needs and ambitions more than any other of the local factions.
It should be said that this route wasn't without hiccups either, and the beavers' frantic river digging and dam building, not to mention deforesting, led to many areas of their empire getting ruined in various ways. But entropy always tends towards stability. Or when it tends to chaos, then chaos is necessary to reach some kind of equilibrium.
