Kaleida Herbarium 1 | Alien (Other) | Sci-fi/Fantasy
★ Side-Project ★
I am so happy to show you this second infographic! Taleea from DeviantArt has been working for a long time to bring my original, vague plant sketches to life and turn them into a range of interesting plants. I springboarded off her drawings to write a history, cultural significance, position within the ecosystem, and more for each, and that's how my finished plants came to be.
But what I wasn't able to do until recently was compile all the members of a particular group of alien plants into one place so you can see what they look like at a glance. Now you can! The eccentrics are on a taxonomic level to mammals, reptiles, birds, etc. Here is an infographic giving an overall idea of what these plants are like, plus all the species for you to see at a glance.
I could take this one level further and rewrite these plants so that they're not species, but taxonomic Orders - the equivalents of birds of prey, primates, bats, and so on. I'll do that at some point for one or two of these but for now I'm treating them as species so that this side of Kaleida feels at least somewhat complete.
Getting this far has been a fun ride and I'm definitely looking forward to working with Taleea some more!
This is sci-fi/science fiction, not fantasy, but Furaffinity lacks a drop-down option for that.

What is Kaleida?
Kaleida is a worldbuilding project without a storyline or individual characters. Most of my clients come to me with stories and characters and treat worldbuilding as an after-thought, so I'm doing the opposite and focusing solely on my worldbuilding. This species is a result of my research on how to create an alien ecosystem, which I wrote as a blog series. Read it here.

Thank you! It's really good fun to work with an artist on this, and picking an artist who feels confident drawing concepts is particularly helpful as they can create a range of different looks. That said, it was me who did that here. Taleea made my fairly vague sketches look like, well, these, but spazzfur did the same for a set of animals.
I absolutely love all of these plants!! I think my favorite has to be Almavivas, though.
I couldn't find anything about the Rish Trees though, and they sound absolutely beautiful!
I also noticed that most of the plants repopulate via spores -- and that none of them have any kind of fruit! I'm super interested in seeing more plants from this world!
It also totally inspired me to want to make a character that just goes around eating random things to see if they're edible or not haha
Everything is super detailed, and it's totally made me think more about some of the stuff to add to my own little mini flora project -- thank you for the inspiration!

The almvivas do seem to be an overall favourite! The rish trees are to come - I look forward to showing them off to people!
About fruits: my flowering (and therefore fruiting) plants mostly grow underwater so they'll eventually have their own infographic just like this one. I'm excited to work on them and have some plans already about how their petals will need to be able to withstand being permanently wet.
I wish that character the best of luck - they must have a stomach of iron! If you feel like getting art of them eating any of my plants then by all means show the finished work to me, I'd love to see that!
You're welcome! Feel free to share your ideas with me, I'd love to see what you come up with!
