Well, to be honest, this is a bit of a lie. In fact, such works take me much more time than a regular sketch. I even sometimes do preliminary sketches of compositions for this as for large works.

The only difference is that this is a colored scan. And it's noticeable at full size: https://sta.sh/0h1guerpj85
But at a small size everything seems very neat. =3
The truth is that I care about my growth as an artist. And since lately I've been a little depressed to draw for myself, such small orders allow me to grow in level and embody some ideas that are interesting to me. So sometimes I do a lot more in the sketch category than I originally planned))

Oohhh, economics, I understand. As for it being a traditional scanned piece, honestly I had no idea. This is so smooth and flows so well, I just assumed it was a digital piece, with all of the digital touch-ups that come with it. Impressive work, needless to say. I'm glad you're finding the smaller orders you like making, and I'm happy people are supporting your growth in commissioning them. I can only hope you keep yourself on track with sketches not being super detailed and not slowly drift back into 'illustrations', otherwise it'll just be chasing the problem from before. Keep it sketched, keep it safe!
I think balance is the best. I am reminded of a chapter from the The Neverending Story about the jungle and the stone lion:
"“Perilin?” said the lion. “What’s that?”
Then Bastian told him about the miraculous jungle that consisted of living light. While Grograman listened in fascinated amazement, Bastian described the diversity and beauty of the glimmering phosphorescent plants, their silent, irresistible growth, their dreamlike beauty and incredible size. His enthusiasm grew as he spoke and Grograman’s eyes glowed more and more brightly.
“All that,” Bastian concluded, “can happen only when you are turned to stone. But Perilin would swallow up everything else and stifle itself if it didn’t have to die and crumble into dust when you wake up. You and Perilin need each other.”
For a long while Grograman was silent.
“Master,” he said then. “Now I see that my dying gives life and my living death, and both are good. Now I understand the meaning of my existence. I thank you.”"
In creativity, too, excessive chaotics would not be beneficial, as well as excessive accuracy. There must be a place for both emotional impulse and control. *)
But that's just my opinion))
Sorry if I'm getting too boring. I just like to philosophize sometimes XD

I think we're doing very well, thanks mostly to your comprehension of my barely literate ramblings. I am very tired.
Still, I think you're right, in the end. A balance, as weighted in one direction or the other according to one's own life, must be struck for the sake of continuity of the craft. Balance in all things.
