That one year I only had like a couple days off, between house building, work, repairs and other troubles there was just no time for it.
So I finally decided I gotta have at least a few days off the grid or I'd lose my sanity, packed the black gryphon and went into taiga forests. The trip did not go well, after crossing a shallow swamp the engine stopped and just won't start again, I spend a whole next day there trying to revive it. It finally did start and I have returned home. I did not find the exact reason what's caused the trouble, even though I have got dealer-level computer diagnosis for it and I know this unit really well... Later that same autumn the engine has had a major failure which would cost to repair more than buying another used engine. After all the troubles I had with the 4JX1 unit I did not want to replace it with the same model, unreliable and over-complicated as it is, not quite fit for my life and work conditions. I wanted to swap it to the 2nd diesel engine in line available for this car, which is mechanical, easy and has a reputation of bulletproof one, but, whole the swap process needed quite a lot of money I didn't have. Since that day the black gryphon is sitting at my backyard waiting for the swap. I've gathered some loans and bought another vehicle, an old toyota 4wd in a trash-like condition, but it was working and running. I'm slowly rebuilding it to mechanical perfection since then, as my survival depends on it. I did not give the toyota a nick name or character like the black gryphon, but it appears in my underdesk art some times too.
I'm not sure if those life journal sort of pictures/stories are even interesting to you guys, sorry if they are not - they do not take place of a real high quality art which will appear as usual.

Well your own body heals by itself, you gotta have to deal with the pain though, as well being american you gotta pay for the doc as well so ... alright your point. thank god I'm german and have a great health insurance If you wouldn't have to pay for insurance fixing your car would be the more expensive trip in the end xD
For the day that your ute died without a visible reason (I'm guessing by the drawing it didn't take in water) there are certain types of sensors that don't like getting wet/flooded but as soon as they dry out the problem goes away leaving you with no idea what happened. I've seen it before on distributors that had optical position sensors in them.
I laughed at the gryphon being shocked at what its being asked to do and the can of WD-40 in its claws and Chara's less than enthused expression. I suppose its for the best our machines can't talk back to us whenever we take them on flights of fancy like this.

I thought so too, and I carry spare sensors, the ones required to start.. Tried replacing them, then to dry all the wiring loom connectors, could not solve this puzzle.. But definitely something electronic-related happened, because of water getting somewhere it should not have... Yeah, Chara was quite unhappy about it, also when the purple starts talking of these things it's hard to shut him up x)
Did you check for broken wires or cracked insulation? Working as a trucker, I see water get into the wiring on my companies trailers all the time. If that's the case it absolutely could prevent a good signal from reaching the computer. I know it may require actually taking the wiring harnesses apart, but it's the best I can think of.
I love em and it gives us all a look into your life and hobbies! I was about to compliment you on your twin power axels calendar picture about how I appreciated you including the diff locking motors as a nice touch, but now I can see you appreciate that mechanical detail just as much or more than myself!
So sorry to hear the engine gave up the ghost on you, it really is gut wrenching when something you spend so much time, effort, and money on just doesn't have the will to keep going. My 03 Subaru WRX hatchback did the same last year when it developed a fuel cutt-off problem which I couldn't solve after replacing the entire fuel system and the dealer couldn't figure out after tearing it apart for three weeks. I feel your pain and I wish you the best in building up the Toyota before tackling the Black Gryphon again.
Also this is super cute, especially the Black Gryphon guzzling the diesel, oil, and WD40 haha!
