Brigadier General Joseph "Joe" Adler is an anthropomorphic bald eagle and a brigadier general in the 5th U.S. Army, serving under the head of the Americartoon Expeditionary Force, Lieutenant General Guy Rogard. He decided to leave his birthplace in the foothills of the Columbia River Valley and become an officer in the Army in order to escape the economic downturn that followed the end of the First World War. He was content with postings at overseas garrisons at first, and fathered a son named Bill during that time. A major at the outbreak of the Second World War, Joe was made a colonel and attached to the 5th U.S. Army under General Omar Bradley as it fought its way across North Africartoonia, Eataly, and Europe. Joe's son Bill was also enlisted in the Army during this time, fighting at the Battle of Anzio.
After the war, Joe was temporarily posted in US-held Bavaria before returning stateside following the formation of West Jerrymany. War broke out once again in 1955, this time against the vile Disney Corporation on Americartoon soil. Joe joined General Rogard and the 5th U.S. Army during its drive to liberate Chicago as part of the overall Battle of Cartoonia, a victory that earned Joe the rank of brigadier general. Now, Joe acts as the liaison between the 5th Army, the Republic's 501st Battalion, and the 501st's subdivision, Chanticleer Bluth's 104th Composite Unit. This task is crucial in that it helps coordinate battle plans between the three units during their combined assaults against Disney positions. While Joe, like many other Americartoon higher-ups, was initially doubtful of Chanticleer's capabilities, he took notice of Chanticleer's morale-boosting strategies and skilled usage of artillery salvos, and came to respect him. As Bill is now in the 1st U.S. Army taking part in the War Against Disney, Joe wants to make sure that strategies will work, and sometimes advises Chanticleer and Anakin on Army tactics.
