That Night You Proposed I Gazed into Your Eyes

I can't understand how you'd cast me aside;
you were my partner, my mentor, my pride.
Rumination on this will bring nothing to gain;
staying mired in agony is what it will maintain.
That night you proposed I gazed into your eyes;
I'm so entranced by you, parents were defied.
Around that time there were so many highs –
it took many months for the excitement to subside.
