Done for my grandmother, who really likes squirrels.. I decided to take my 'time off' from requests to do some pics for my family. They're constantly hinting that they'd like some drawings, and I, being a complete asshat, never seem to find the time... So here it is.. I found some time. At least for Omi, who's really probably the only relative I care to spend this much time on...
To completely gank someone else's observation: My scanner is a rapist. it has pretty much murdered the colors and the texture in the background, and some of the smaller details... It looks all washed out.. BLEAH.
Ok.. here's my problem: It's done.. or I thought it was... but now I'm not so sure. The background is really simple, just some leaves here and there.. but I'm not sure if I should try to do more...
Would more ruin it? Would throwing in some washed out lines to represent trees utterly eat this? Would something else be better? Or should I leave it as is? I have no idea.. and other than the fact that it's really late in the game to add shit (at least in traditional media I've always been brow-beaten that BACKGROUNDS COME FIRST), I'm open to suggestions, and willing to try.
Anyway, compliments and squeeing welcome and accepted with a smile,
real critique of composition, suggestions and otherwise are highly appreciated and approved of.

Bright eyed and bushytailed, with amazingly detailed soft fluffy fur, just as a squirrel should be. I'd love to see the original - the fur detail must be even more amazing. The paws are very right, too. In my inexpert opinion, no more background. The squirrel is the center of attention, and more background would be a distraction. This is a portrait of Mr. Squirrel, not a true-to-life nature study.
