It is indeed the child's name. Not sure what culture it's from but it means bear I belive.

It does indeed. Tolkien named a shape-shifting character in 'The Hobbit' Beorn. He could "skin-change" from a large, darkhaired man into a huge bear.

I beleive the word itself is Scandanavian.

I didn't pick the animals, the commissioner did. But I was thrilled to have a Narwhal choosen! Such great animals:)

Ohh, I love the black bear! But then, I am biased. ;)

That bear was a lot of fun to paint. I don't think I've ever done a black bear before. I'm thinking I might do one for AC since I enjoyed it so much. It was the tan muzzle I think:)

Nice, bright color choices, and the layout's fun. Great idea to divide the columns. The horizontal space of white sets off the name so well :)

I wouldn't be surprised if you get a lot more commissions like this. Hey, you should do one for yourself with a bird for each letter of your name. It'd make a lovely table piece for cons :)
