Raff was drawn by the estimable
Scott_Ruggels.
A vinter forced to ply his trade in the countryside and the outskirts of the great cities by more established families. That he is a peloso*, whose ancestors originated outside of Stivale**, hasn't helped him make inroads to more prestigious demographics and gain the clout needed to sell in more lucrative markets. To counter this disadvantage, he has set up an informal informer network that allows him to get a leg up on his more entrenched competition in identifying sales opportunities and market trends. He also uses the network as a means to identify potential trouble to his vineyards and wine shipments, as this is a time of strife and the lands aren't as safe as they once were. Should something threaten his trade, that's where the PC party comes in, whom he has on retainer.
The original patron of the PC's in a campaign I'm running. While they have since moved on to be more freelanced, they still have been in contact with him as he is still a good source of coin, information, and wine. I loosely based him on Fred Lou of Outlaw Star for the purpose of assisting the PC's in a tough spot and making them uncomfortable in their interactions with him. Raff has worked out in both respects and has been a good source of awkward comic relief.
I've been following Mr. Ruggel's work since 2004 or 2005, after looking for character art for some Lupine (Dragon Magazine #325 Nov '04) NPC's I was stating out and testing. Incidentally, this was my introduction to the 'furry' fandom and how I ended up here. He has some amazing character drawings and sketches on has FA page that go from the early '00's to today. I'm partial to his lupines, as they are my standard for 'wolf like race' in about any setting I've run, but he has done a wide variety anthro characters and concepts over the years. He occasionally does commissions and actually has 3 slots open at the time of this post! Go and check it out!
*Derogatory term for beast people in the setting
** My unoriginal name for the region. Want to take a guess what it's based on?
