Probably depends on the stage of infection. The Guardians themselves tend to be fairly safe from the corruption of chaos, after all.
I think Luna has medicine that can treat a Chaos infection if the subject hasn't succumbed to it yet. Miralle's green fire can also probably burn out a fresh wound.
It looks like this one has been wounded for some time before he turned, and I imagine that's the point of no return.
Would be happy to find out that he's not gone yet, and the guardians are going save the smithy too.
