When I was *really* little, our family sometimes went to a nearby lake to picnic, and you could find bits of quartz just ... almost everywhere. Not huge pieces like Charna has here, but pretty nice ones. This was a TVA lake that was created after they built some of the dams, so I'm not sure how many people would have been hanging around that particular area normally. Almost all of them had little inclusions of what looked like reddish dirt, but otherwise they were very clear.
