More delving into the Andur dreamscape. In a recent posting http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2821173/ I mentioned that Siegfried was a leader in the Valhaullan Vikings. Now I made it clear that he was a powerful mage, but some might think that if they could confront him quickly enough with physical force they could take him. After all he's just 10" tall and their 6' or more! Big mistake.
One of the talents developed by mice and rats is an ability called Phantom Hands. depending upon the wielder's skill Phantom Hands allows the caster to handle and manipulate physical objects with their mind.
For some this means they can only manipulate objects that their own size and strength could, and then only at distances no greater than their own arm length. The wielder may or may not be able feel the object as if it was in their own hand. For most people the act of casting Phantom Hands will require all of their focus and attention. If their Phantom Hand comes in contact with someone it will meet resistance just like a really hand, and at most they will have only two.
Siegfried is one of the better users of Phantom Hands. He can manipulated objects of bigum size easily with the strength of healthy adult bigum male at equivalent arms length. He has excellent tactile feedback both hands, and is able to handle objects with both hands while performing other tasks like casting other spells or ordering his men around. This means in hand to hand combat he is actually able to defend himself against bigums. As this poor fellow has just figured out. What more he is not even bothering to stop reading the scroll in front of him. "Go away kid you bother me!"
Unfortunately the best wielder of Phantom Hands I am aware of in the Andur dreamscape is the Scary Shamaness http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1479752/ She can summon up a dozen bigum strength hands at distances out to about 25ft. What's worse she can often penetrate peoples surface presence and inflict nasty damage to folks by squeezing, crushing, tearing, ripping up their internal organs!

I absolutely love the amount of thought you've put into all this. The shamaness sounds like someone you'd not want to meet even in a well-lit alley. :) I do like how the small ones of the dreamscapes take survival of the fittest to a new angle - survival by superior willpower and brains. :)
Yep, the strategy of the rats and definitely the mice is "we have to be smarter and more knowledgeable than the competition". Mice are generally credited with creating writing and discovering how to harness magic. They established some of the first civilizations, and established many of theories of mathematics, alchemy and astronomy. Also they are acknowledge as being responsible for many of the concepts of modern banking and the idea of credit.
When the magic started fading many mice and rats realized that one of their most important force multipliers was going away and they began searching in earnest for any advantage they could find in the physical world. They became heavily involved in chemistry, banking, industry, medicine, accounting. In fact in the modern world many of the ideas often claimed to be part of the "Jewish conspiracy" are blamed on the mice and rats instead. Of course there are Jewish mice and rats and they get the double whammy! Species and cultural witch hunts and pogroms!
