Demon fact of the day:
While demons do not require or need sleep to function, it can be an especially helpful time of rest when factoring in the fact they need souls to operate their body’s on their own terms. By sleeping, demons use little to no energy, thus extending their “deadline” in regards to when they will need more souls. To significantly reduce the amount of time between each feeding, a demon would need to sleep around 15 hours per day, with zero interruptions.
The only downside to opting to adapt to a sleep schedule is that if it is disrupted without prior knowledge from said demon, the “side effects” of being woken up aren’t exactly the most fun.
Short summary, Gaze and Phantom sleep so they don’t have to kill as many people for souls, but they don’t respond well to being woken up without a warning beforehand. Nearly any demon that choose to adhere to a sleep schedule isn’t a morning person, these two included. Gaze being the typical grumpy one and Phantom being disoriented is what you’d expect, right? Well, that’d be completely wrong. It’s actually reversed!
Phantom is incredibly cranky and quick to snap if ever he’s forced to get up early, which can be daunting considering his usually mild mannered personality and overall attitude. During this time, he’ll only respond in rather curt “uh huh”s and in general just doesn’t look like he should be talked to for a solid hour.
As for Gaze, he’s very groggy and simply has no idea what planet he is on. He’ll reply in incoherent mumbling, often making very little sense. Also, not very graceful as he’ll bump into things a lot while he struggles to open his eyes. Meanwhile, his tailmaw is just happy to be there as Gaze just absentmindedly pets it. As you can see, both of them get bed head, even with short fur they’re not safe from it, primarily Phantom who always has it far worse.
This also doubles as a height difference visual since Gaze (who is 13‘7”) is noticeably shorter when next to Phantom (who is 15’8”).
This just felt like a super cute couple thing I could make for them since I hardly draw them together, let alone in anything other than angst (sorry not sorry). Luckily, they don’t stay this way for long, Phantom retuning to his more gentlemanly disposition and Gaze to his snappy and reckless self within the hour or so. Either way, they are definitely not morning people.

(Oh, thanks! It worked ^^)
If demons were able to be put into a comatose state, that would actually be an even bigger issue than if they stuck to not sleeping. Sleeping pushes their need to have a soul back for more time, but they still need to kill for one. Comatose wouldn’t do anything but make their body realize they need a soul, go on autopilot, then resort to savagery. They’d still be mentally unconscious, but afterwards would get a jumpstart and realize they’ve killed way more than what is necessary since they’d go pass the “deadline”.
