Simply Blackmask [November 5th 2021]

Exactly as it says on the tin - a full-body view of Blackmask. As I said on my Simply Jaws piece, the comics rarely called for me to draw any of the characters in full profile - except in distant shots, and even then they only appeared in what I call my itty-bitty style. Obviously I'd done full-body views of many of the characters in model sheets (which I may or may not make public at some point), and so I decided to try and put them to use here.

As an aside, it's worth nothing the gesture Blackmask is making here. When I was doing this drawing, I wanted to show Blackmask as the rebel of the core character group, and having her do the hook 'em horns seemed like the best way of showing that. Now, I don't know if you've ever tried drawing a character trying to do such a gesture when they've only got four fingers, but it's not easy. I eventually had to give up and draw Blackmask doing the shaka sign, which does work with four fingers. I later found out that this gesture also means hang loose, which works equally well with Blackmask's character - so it all worked out well in the end...!
