This is beautiful! I love the palette and the use of shadows on the clothing. The colors themselves give me an abstract vibe. As well as if you made a digital 'water color'.
I also love the way the human touches their monster. You did wonderfully in expressing the deep emotional connection they share, as well as the tension of what society may do when discovering their interspecies relationship.
It's a deep and emotional piece. I love it!
And referring to your description; is there a particular artist(s) you inspired it from? Or was it one that you created?
I must admit that the combination of this style, the human, and them touching their monster lover(?) reminds me of a few different mangas that feature monster people.
One of which would be the colored pages from the "Ancient Magus' Bride" manga. Not terribly close, but similar.
And another called "Kaiju no 8".
I just feel the energy of this exact scene being one that you would find in a manga. Perhaps a scene that is holding high tension, especially for the human. Because they know that the world may not accept them for their relationship.
It also reminds me of a sketch style you might see from
Desubox.

Thank you my friend! I tried a new type of shading that is less cel-shaded but still not as smooth as semi-realism with a heavily textured brush and... A gradient map. In fact, this drawing is black and white haha, the power of gradient maps is incredible.
I created this style with a huge inspiration of Solas' tarot card; the second one. Then I scribbled everything, tried to play with geometric shapes... It's a style that I kind of like, but need to work on to see if I can do more than just profiles.
Ooh, and I know both of these mangas! I didn't read them at all though, there is a third one that I love and that inspired a bit Gralzkiakh's look: The Girl From the Other Side! The style is superb and very inspiring. I might take a closer look of the mangas you mentioned, thank you 💙
And I LOVE DesuBox. What an amazing artist, with their perfect use of colors and shading. Truly an inspiration too! I'm super glad that you mentioned them. <3

You are very welcome, my friend!
It's a very unique and beautiful style. And as I said, I love that you tested it out with an emotional scene like this. I also find it rather amazing how you only needed one reference to recreate said style. I usually need a few pages to get a feel for one.
Admittedly, I never read them either, haha. Just a few pages, though the subject matter and style always stood out to me. And thanks for mentioning that manga! I've been looking for it for the longest time, as I just adore the design of the monster characters, along with their relationship with humans.
I can see the resemblance you took with Gralzkiakh, that's a great touch!
No problem, I'm happy that you like their work, I figured that you would c:
