there are official leagues too of course, sports in general are very popular with many Gobbler clans. fighting sports are big with battle clans, ball games and racing is for clans built for speed, etc. these leagues are officially sanctioned by the government, and there's quite a lot of money flowing into and around it. brand deals, merchandizing, superstar athletes selling stuff on television,... really not that different from our world.


then you have the underground leagues. which are on the edge of legal. you can't stop Gobblers from fighting any more than you can stop Dwellers from wanting to get eaten. the leagues are tolerated and rarely get into conflict with the law, since Gobblers are participating voluntarily. while in official leagues injury is prevented as much a spossible, in unsanctioned matches people get injured all the time, and sometimes even die. some Gobbler clans are walking muscles, with aggressive tendencies. they get to live that out in these illegal matches, but they gotta pay the price if they lose. and there is also a lot of betting money flowing into illegal matches. especially the so called blood matches. which ARE definitely illegal as the goal is to rend your opponent as much as possible, killing the opponent is not openly stated as the goal but it often leads to it.
