It's an extra-firm upholstery foam. I'm experimenting with the material to see how well it works for carving out a head.

It's an extra-firm upholstery foam, generally the stuff is used in roadcases for storing audio equipment and other electronics. It's kinda of an experiment to see how easy the material is to carve opposed to normal foam which tends to be a bit soft and harder to work with.

Just be warned, that stuff does turn into powder after about 10 years. This may or may not be an issue to you.

As for the head... orca? Toony dragon? :3

Yeah I admit I'm still new to the material, so I'm not absolute about all of it's qualities... though if I'm still wearing this head 10 years later then I figure it would be need to be re-made anyways >.<

Yeah, I figure very few furries tend to keep costumes around that long but I felt I should say something anyway! Nothing is more disturbing than a disintegrating mascot. xD

I heard about 10 years for the black foam, but what about the white and green foam? What's the lifetime for those before they deteriorate?

I honestly don't know, but I suspect it's longer because of its elasticity. The main concern with that foam of course, is mildewing.

The shaping is really cute! I personally love working with that type of foam. It's a dream to carve. Luckily I can get it in huge sheets locally.

Thanks! Not done yet, but I think so as well. Yeah, that is the exact reason I ended up trying the foam for this new head. It's so easy to put in new curves and carve out what you need, whats up there came together over a weekend which is good for my own track record.
