
And here's the current UV map with textures as per requested. Of course I havn't spent much time on the textures at all yet =p I've gotten more detailed textures on the inside of the maw and his talons and horns so far.(Which is on another version of the texture, not this one =p ) Now just to get some good detail on the rest of it =p

True, especially considering the blockiness of the character. If I could see the wireframe of the character, I could comment a bit more on that.
I think right now what you need to do is smooth him out and give him the proper definitions and proportions, keeping in my edge loops and such.
Then you can worry about optimizing and UV mapping. UVs come after modeling, if not you'l be wasting a lot of time constantly fixing your UVs.
