So I designed this in MS Paint years ago. I used to really love coming up with my own creature designs and this one stood out the most. I kinda forgot about it over time because I didn't really think anyone would like ... enjoy it? I was in the process of designing the males and kinda ... lost inspiration.
But I found it again recently and decided I dunno ... maybe develop it more? I've been struggling with art so much for a long time and figured revamping an old species might help bring the spark back.
This particular one is a female Kelshenna, the males would have more vibrant colors, larger head crests, longer fur waddles (The fluff below the chin, closer to the base of the neck) and are about two feet smaller than the females, often appearing more dainty. Also considering swapping out the feet for something else, not sure how I feel about them, maybe adding some sort of claw or hoof?
But, here's what I have so far;
They are a psychic race of alien like, mammalian birds. Almost looking like a mix of rabbit, kangaroo and some sort of unidentifiable bird.
They have a third eye, hidden by a barely noticeable slit on their foreheads. All three eyes cannot be open at the same time. They have to go into a meditation pose, close their "primary" eyes in order to open the third one. They basically hold themsleves up on their strong tails like a pedestal, their 4 arms taking various poses with complex finger singing as if "tapping" into their abilities.
Mostly vegetarian, the only "proteins" they really get are from nuts and insects. Some hard to get mushrooms on their planet have a lot of protein and are sought after by this race, often paying a high price for these prized mushrooms.
Calm, quiet and soft spoken and very intelligent. They can see certain future events, but only in small pieces and can easily visit someone's past memories. Some even pay a high price for them to "unlock" certain memories that they have forgotten, which is arguably their best ability. If enough Kelshenna gather in a Meditation Circle, they can use their collective power to see a very clear future of a certain event, such as, what will be the outcome of this particular war another race is waging. Doing this is risky though, as it is dubbed "forbidden knowledge" and the consequence of seeing such events can mentally harm an unprepared Kelshenna, often times leading to brain damage and the loss of their psychic abilities. Their culture, while loving knowledge and spreading of it, understand that there is just certain knowledge out there not meant for everyone, and while they do have access to it, they are often punished trying to know it, so even while they may be offered a lot of money to gather in a Meditation Circle to look into a clear future, they will still often turn it down as not to risk harm to themselves or potentially others.
While their big ears suggest they have amazing hearing, their ears are mostly for listening out for "otherworldly" things and not so much the sounds in the world around them, such as ghosts, demons, etc. They are often employed to help with things like Seances and many are powerful Mediums. Their psychic abilities and power to tap into "other worlds" have opened them up to the Supernatural world, often communing with lost relatives. Being open to the Supernatural world has also left them very superstitious, many of them having trinkets and things strung about their homes that bring good luck and ward off negativity. A lot of their culture revolves around "The Mind and Soul"
Choosing partners reflects bird behavior; the males often using their colors, nice crests and singing voices to try and woo a particular female. Usually, even if a female is interested, they are taught to politely decline a certain males advances in a test to see how determined the male is to win her heart. Courting can continue for about a month, and if the female decides to accept, a wedding is planned the following year, usually held during their colder months if they happen to want children soon after so that they will be born in a warmer season, as the young are born without any fur to keep them warm. Weddings are a huge deal among this race, involving their entire Village in a large, extravagant celebration. During the celebration, the couple has to wear a red ribbon around their wrists, holding them together as a "test" of their continued love for another, and if the ribbon were to be removed before the celebration is over, it would be considered a bad omen for their marriage.
There's more to come as I further develop them. I'm really terrible at world building and such lol, but feel free to shoot suggestions and thoughts on them! I'd love to hear it! Also gonna probably get the males designed here eventually too.

Dude these are such a neat species and a really cool concept/worldbuilding behind them! I've been working on my own sci fi for the last 21 years now, and honestly I think you sell yourself short here! You did a lot of slid work!! lol heck I'm tempted to ask if you'd be interested in selling the species! ^^' I don't have a lot of bird species, and I feel I need to fix that! But again, everything you did here was absolutely fantastic!!
