It's a given - a Whackadoodle Inn Thursday Prompt
This story is a surprise gift to my friend
ursusarctos and was inspired by the artwork of
natashakot which you will see at the very beginning of the story.
One of these days I might get up the nerve to try some of Miss Bun's 'special' soup, but not before purchasing a case of tums.
enjoy...

Phones run off power supply from the phone company. If there's wires connecting it, it doesn't need electricity from the user.
Sounds like a tasty kinda soup, and a lovely visit. I'm not sure if I'd turn up at the Inn as a wolf, or a bat, but either way I'd love to visit - or retire there, as the case might be.

That was a very neat little story, It would be very nice once in a while to fall into a dream for just a while, and see something completely different. I have always wondered how life would compare from today's Modern era to just before the turn of the 20th Century. It does make you think that a more simple life may have many of it's own perks.
*smiles... life has always been tough, both past and present. Each generation learns to deal with what they have. For me, since I was born to the babyboomers, I had the full teachings of my grandparents, and so had a full unconscious understanding of things as they were. The first house I remember was partial Victorian, and partial farm house. My grandmother had an apartment there made out of the former parlor. The faucets then were all hot water, or cold water. (nothing fancy)
An example of their wisdom would be my grandfather telling me, 'Don't play the radio in your car because it runs the battery down.' I didn't understand this until I actually owned a 1937 four door Plymouth, and it had a radio. The battery was only 6 volts, and the radio had tubes as big as cut down cucumbers.
Yes we dream. Hold onto your dreams Shanster.
One of the things more prevalent back then - more people enjoyed making music.

“Am I dreaming?” he asked her.
“Sort of, but not exactly.”
And I smiled so very wide. The Whackadoodle is exactly that, isn't it? A dream, but not exactly.
I'm glad to see Ursus has had the pleasure of your company and hospitality. And I'm always happy to see the folks of the Valley. I inevitably feel relaxed afterwards.
Thank you.

my but you are up early... *hugs...
I thought you knew, but that's fine. It's a period that just sort of happened for me. I think a lot of it comes from my grandparents. Think about this one D... my grandmother was born in a time BEFORE electricity, and lived to see a man land on the moon.
I think Musk will be the first man on Mars.
*hugs again...

Pigeons do sing, a little bit. It's a very simple song but it has its points.
How big is the inn? I sometimes imagine a two story building with six rooms on the second story, two on the first, the rest of the space taken up with the kitchen and quarters for the owner and her staff, and a common room. Probably a basement as well.

Years ago, I found this picture displayed at work, and my heart just nearly burst.

It's pretty close to how the Inn would look. I found some other images when looking on line, and sometimes it just feels like I've been there.

Always a pleasure to catch up with the goings on at the Whackadoodle, and still see new faces. That being said, it's taken be a long time to gather my thoughts on this particular piece, in spite of reading it twice now.
But overall, it reminds me of how I had a hard time hearing the bass notes in music growing up. It wasn't until I started listening to Rush that I really started to highlight it (to be fair, it's hard to ignore Geddy Lee's technique and prowess with how prominent his contribution is on their records - example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OImhmxDZ7A .) Eventually picking up on it to the point where I would listen to a song while meditating and focus completely on the bassline.
