Andd here's the final version of Norman "Ratsy" Rathskeller. (He thinks the picture makes him look too cute, but I think it fits him.) Excellent work from smolbatenergy on Twitter, and a definite grasp of the Victorian aesthetic!
"Sign's done, guv! Soon's we settle up, I'll be off t'give me milltag a right an' proper scrub."
Norman Rathskeller, "Ratsy" o his friends, is a Rat Beastman from the Victoriana RPG. (I've never gotten to play him, but I'd love to.) He's the son of a chimney sweep, and was trained to become a footpad -- but decided that he didn't want other people's things badly enough to hurt or kill for them. Since "retiring" from that profession, he's become a sign painter around the lower-class neighborhood of Ratcliffe Cross, where he lives in a cheap room. Which he can only afford because his landlord has an odd sense of humor, quite enjoying a Rat living in Ratcliffe Cross. (Ratsy doesn't like the joke, but isn't going to turn down a lower rent.)
Rat Beastmen like Ratsy are the lowest rung of Victorian society in the Victoriana RPG. Beastmen in general are second-class citizens, but a lot depends on the animal you resemble. Lions are downright popular, Dogs have their charms. Rats? Not so much. But Ratsy, well, he's a fatalist -- his view is that you end up where you're meant to be, to do what you're meant to do. ("Fatalist" is based on "fate", not "fatal".) So he's more-or-less accepting of his lot in iife. He's even quite honest, generally -- but if someone needs help, he's still just as limber and sneaky as he ever was, and still "a dab 'and with a cosh", to say nothing of his palette knife.
