It's not your eyes, the picture is slightly blurry.

Cruising down the boardwalk last spring, I met these
two fine gentlemen.
The dad was wearing a Lakers shirt, and since I'm a fan also we
struck up a conversation about the team.
The son hovered in the background until I bent down to shake his hand
and ask him who his favorite player was.
His dad started to answer for him but the boy quickly exclaimed "Shaq!
He's the best." I agreed and we talked about other great players and
the kid's elementary school team and dogs and a bunch of stuff.
Soon, he began to pet Magnolia and Rud, asking them how they
liked living with such a tall dog.
The dad gave me a stunned look. He confided that his son is almost
paralyzed with fear of talking to people he doesn't know.
He's also deathly scared of dogs....
The dad was obviously very pleased that his son had been social
and had petted the mutts. He said it was a real breakthrough.
Boy, if he could have seen my smile!
I hope our brief meeting was a stepping stone for the kid.
I hope he is losing his fear of speaking and of dogs.
Clearly, he had no fear of speaking to a giant dog...

*marfwiggles* One day about 8 months ago I had to being Grady to work with me. He was having a particularly bad day and threatened to steal my motorcycle if I left him home alone. He is such a troublesome puppy... I was taking him around to visit various people I work with and ended up needing to have chat with one of the people I am sort of in charge of. The guy is usually a challenge to speak with and doesn't tend to take kindly to corrective suggestions and action plans from management. The conversation lasted about 10 minutes. I spoke though Grady for the whole thing, bad Australian accent and all. At about the 2 minute mark, I noticed this guy wasn't looking at me when he was talking anymore; he was looking at and addressing the foul mouthed jack Russell impaled on my arm. Not only did he commit to do what I needed him to but asked if Grady would come and visit again when I need to review his job performance in a few weeks time. There is something disarming about cute furry things be them small or large. I have often thought about starting a therapy/counseling business where I speak with people about their problems and help them sort out what they need to make themselves happier people all while in suit. Perhaps I can put the arts degree in psychology I almost completed to good use after all! *ponders* Thanks again for a great submissions DB! *hugs*
*Huffs, puffs, gradually catching up on posts!!*
Generally I fin dchildren of that age are pretty preoccupied with debunking us giant-talking animals(or monsters in some cases) as frauds- I'm glad the make-believe was evident enough for the boy to chat with you and overcome some of his fears :3 Thats a great thing you did! Look at you out there doing good ;) For some reason its easier to speak to giant talking dogs than people. Probably because dogs are loyal and friendly, and people- well.. they can be pretty much anything :3
Every time I read these I keep thinking to myself, "I should go make myself a dog suit right now. Fly out to cali and hang out with the D-bomb for a day!". Truth be told, as a stone-hearted conservative(Not repub, please don't get those confused D:) California has always had a reputation as cesspool of poverty and arrogance. But you're teaching me a thing or two as well as everyone else :3 Slowly warming up to the people out there, vicariously, through your posts :3 You are a good dog!!!!
