What truly suggests that you have lost your human form during a transformation? Is it growing a tail or even multiple tails? Perhaps it's when your vision is obscured by the muzzle growing out into an inescapable fixture of your sight? Or maybe it's when you feel your vulnerable hide shift into something...else.
I say it's something else. It's that moment when everything around you becomes almost alien and inaccessible. It's when your ability to challenge the natural world becomes scarier...a new light shining on previously unimagined possibilities while others fade into darkness. It's when you fall down onto all fours in an animal posture. Your ability to right yourself rendered impossible and a terrifyingly unknown future becomes your reality.
How would you react? With disdain? Sorrow? Disgust?
For myself, I am filled with mischievous joy. Perhaps I had planned this out as my fanning tails drift behind me, my thumbs reduced to little more than clawed nubs. Though it would seem it's not me that I'm paying attention to. Gasping in surprise is my friend, his legs replaced digitigrade paws that waggle with unusual angles and unfamiliar muscles.
In a few short minutes, he would lose the use of his hands while the rage of his inner fire reaches forth to engulf him into a fur coat of the warmest quality. A time that, for him, would probably seem to stretch on forever as he tries desperately to process what is happening to his body.
...
Mmmm the feel of the cold dirt on my new paws feels good. An experience you could never get as a human.
Whether my friend likes it or not, I'm sure he'll soon come to appreciate the same. Judging by his pleased rumble coming from his furred throat, I would say it wouldn't take too long at all...
The concept of having the bits and pieces of yourself transform and the sensations or differences that each bring has always fascinated me. However, one that stands out above the rest is definitely the concept of having to walk on all fours. To me, this is an experience that can never truly be replicated by humans because even on all fours we just pale in comparison to natural animals. What would you do? What COULD you do? If you were suddenly reduced to living as a feral four-legged creature? It's an enlightening and terrifying concept because while you could run truly free something as simple as a doorknob could completely isolate you.
That said. I'm fairly sure being a feral Pokemon wouldn't be so bad. At least you get cool powers right? And snuggles would be just the best!
