Okay, this has to be one of my all time favorite commissions to date. This was done at Fur Fright for Sasha Dobie. She had her friends with her and they posed for me. I used a photo of them posing as the basis for this piece. I absolutely love the personalities, the poses and the costumes. Many thanks, Sasha!
Update 12/20/2010 Sasha kindly sent me the user names of everyone who appears in this piece. From left to right they are:

Interesting to hear that you used a photograph, I actually find that quite impressive. Though perhaps you just used it to remember the gist of the poses and costumes! Aaanyway, I like how the dynamic here worked out. It's important to make it seem like the characters are all in the same plane without taking away the dimensions of space, and you were more than succesful. :)
Thanks Shade. Interesting analysis, as always. Proportions, human and otherwise, have always been a challenge for me. Using a photo for reference helped quite a bit with this one. One of the hardest thing for me keep in mind is that perspective affects organic objects as well as mechanical ones.
I understand, it reveals another aspect of duality of an artist; though our brains automatically categorise them in different levels of artistic importance, inorganic and organic objects need to be treated as equals for issues such as perspective and lighting. (Unless you're intentionally breaking away from that..) That's hard for me too. It might not be gigantic praise, but you're a few hundred leaps ahead of me. :)
I'm such a bad person for missing this! WAK! I love this so much. Like I mentioned before, it's amazing how well you captured each individual personality. Everyone in this picture adores this, and I have to say- what's not to adore!? Sassy, Professional, Devious, and Slick. There's not enough words in my thesaurus to describe how amazing this is!
Now for my artistic thoughts-
I REALLY love the cool greys you used with this. The slight blue tint is so your thing, and I love how it almost glows softly. It looks like they're standing under a dark blue sky, under a street lamp. And your use of BLACK! Black scares the hell out of me to use, but the perfect blend of high and low lights draws my eyes up, down, back up, and back down the picture. What a wonderful piece, with great attitude and composition. Easily one of my favorite pieces you've ever done, and I'm not just saying that because I'm in it! <3

Hey, Sasha, thanks! No sweat on a bit of delay on posting. I can be pretty slow myself, depending on what is going on. It just means that we have lives.
Your analysis of the blacks is very apt. It look me a lot of practice to learn to do these. There is a fair amount of artist theory about how to use blacks and when to use them. I am still trying to get better at this technique. It still scares me too, sometimes....
