Wait what? this happens in the true ending? I thought he didn't have demon powers in that one. what about his family? what happened to make him that way? 😱

He doesn't have demon powers like he did in Neutral Ending but he does have some form of special ability that doesn't mature until later years. If you look back at a few pages in True Ending Chapter 4 you'll see Skylar panic when Marci starts to cram food into her mouth and almost choke. Characters in their world have something called "Aura" though it ranges from non-existent to possibly world ending (one of the reasons why characters have a Rank in their bios). He gets a better handle on his ability when he's older as he initially didn't know he had it when he was younger and by the time he met Marci he would sometimes lose control and had to snap people out of it when he would cook.

In his later years, he has complete control over the initial ability (making food delicious and can control the nutrition), though gets a bit blood thirsty when he wants to be free with his cooking (hence why he's in the Black Circus). This is likely a side-effect from his ability but there will be more info about it when his comic comes around. Ultimate, he keeps his actions away from family and friends so that they aren't effected in any way. He keeps work at work.

With that said, if anyone tried to hurt his family, he won't hesitate to get violent >w>

Ok, this is pretty cool, but what is this gem mechanic?
Is that kind of like the Plainswalkers from mtg?

A bit of a mix between character and support but yes. They reside in the Luxury Deck (like Yu-Gi-Oh!'s Extra Deck) but require very specific requirements to be played. The Gems are basically both their health and their ability to use effects. When attacked, they lose Gems until they have 0 and are destroyed. They are also susceptible to card effects and can be destroyed if not protected. They are recoverable from Scrap since you went through the trouble of getting them played (unless otherwise stated).

Normally, they cannot attack or defend as they have no Atk/Def points but in The Devil's Chef's case he can copy a IHHAT: Skylar card and gain its stats along with keeping his BOSS effects thus able to attack or defend if needed (though he losses his BOSS mechanics until the effect wears off so he neither losses nor gains Gems while in this state).
