Took this a few months ago, now I don't exactly recall, but I believe it's a species of wolf spider.

Well I can't say it's wrong, people do that because they fear what they don't understand. A little exposure and research can help get rid of these fears. This particular specimen I believe belongs to the wolf spider family. It was about the size of a quarter, legs and all, and they have a mild bite. It would sting for a little bit. It's been alleged that some species living in South America and Australia have a necrotic bite, and necrotic venom is very nasty. It spreads and kills all of the cells in the surrounding area. Although it hasn't been proven, at least to my knowledge, that they have such venom.
