Well the grammar has nothing to do with occidental languages (I'm French native and I studied English/German, I took one year of japanese and I'm in my 3rd year of chinese), that's why the translator messes up everything a lot, and that's why we usually are bad at speakking Japanese and why Japanese people have trouble speaking English, the way you express yourself and the way you build sentences have nothing in common...
For example, if you want to say "There's a pen on the table" in Japanese, the way the sentence is built is similar to "on the table's upwards a pen exists", or "I eat an apple" is "About myself, an apple is what I eat" or "about an apple, I eat it".
So translators are usually good to translate words alone, but not sentences, unfortunately...
