Short Eared Owls are such nifty looking birds. I see them each winter when I'm out birding. They fly low over fields looking for small rodents and seem to spend hours just sitting in the snow. don't they get cold!

Actually they probably don't! Birds -- especially cold-clime birds like these northern owls -- have an amazing ability to trap heat against themselves inside their downfeathers, and their feet are very cold-resistant (and tuck rather nicely between the feather tracts on the belly).
And that's one very nifty-looking morph.
