I've known about
treyfox's stuff for like, seven years, so coloring this one, for me, has been pretty surreal.
This one was pretty fun to do, I like how it's sort of a midpoint between how I usually color and total celshading, plus I totally love playing that whole inside/outside game with frames, so it was nice and awesome, and gave me some much-needed practice with ambiguous 3D shapes.
But DANG. Nothing against any artists here, but I do NOT have fun doing tons of cleanup to solidify lines. I'm proud of the end result, but it just somehow finds a way to eat up an hour in a blink. However, this piece was worth it, because I'm a total sucker for cute nostalgia and a bit of homage.
Anywho, Trey owns himself, and
yoshi987 owns the little guy who's more tail than he is anything else.

Hee, this is really cute! I like the work you did with color here, it is a nice middle ground between very toony cel-shading and your style. The way you did it... emphasizes Trey's size and muscles nicely. You do fantastic work on coloring biiiiig guys, by the way. :3 That pic of Verace still leaves me speechless. x3
I always try to fit the way I shade and color to match the feel of the source lineart. Muscle gets the most 'pop' when you get a nice strong contrast, which this one took on really well.
As for the Verace commission...oi...that one was a bundle and a half of work. It took more time doing the background objects than the fox. But really, all it really requires is for me to be consistent in any technique I use. If someone can do that, then they can do a good job of coloring nearly anything.

I'll have to keep that in mind once I really get started on practicing coloring. If that contrast works for muscle, does it work well for large bulges in general? Or would fat/pudge and aspects of hyper work differently in terms of coloring, if I may ask?
Also, you can take one quick look in my gallery and see my coloring experience is just about none. I'm really impressed with your coloring technique - if nothing else, you do consistently excellent work.
