The fifth entry of my “Consoling” series. On January 3rd, 2022, tragedy struck, my parents took our eleven year-old golden retriever, Jackson to the vet, and he had stomach cancer. We gave him steroids to help him fight it off for as long as he could, but he couldn’t eat because of the tumor, and because he couldn’t eat, he was starving. So three days later, we put him down. I felt broken beyond repair. And so, I drew this, Zecora is once again comforting me in my time of grief. For those who are unable to read what she’s saying to me, it reads,
“I will not say do not weep,
Now that dear Jackson has gone to sleep.
But remember, he lived the best life a dog could lead,
All thanks to you and your family indeed.
He’s gone forever, so it seems,
That is untrue, he’ll always live in your dreams.
It’s okay James, hold me tight,
Zecora’s here, it will be alright.”
The “I will not say do not weep” line I borrowed from The Lord of the Rings. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ojt0eiFX1K4

JR, I’m also a Christian (I think I remember you mentioning being a furry of faith). I hold to the early Christian belief that animals have immortal souls, and that, being free of original sin, they will all go to heaven. I believe you’ll see Jackson again, someday, in the Kingdom of Heaven; it’s just a matter of getting through this hard life. Carry on in the knowledge that you’ll see him again, and be with him forever.
