I've mentioned before how Hale lives a simple life running a fish farm after leaving her previous life of violence and death. Here, for the first time, is how she appeared back in those days when she was still a slayer on call (essentially an assassin, but with less emphasis on stealth). Whereas her colleague Tsa Li Ban (you may notice similarities between their respective outfits) was the quiet death, Hale was the one to set a showy example. Right up until she decided she'd had enough and made one last demonstration, to convince her employers that they wanted to let her leave.
