The door felt lighter than it appeared, the rust tainted exit crumbled with one last dying screech as he pushes out. Light! It sears his newly opened eyes. He shields himself for a moment, covering himself from the sunlight, the time displayed before his exit blinking the darkest hour. He coughs, the new smells of the forest bombarding his sterile nasal cavity with fresh animals, trees, a natural aura condensed into aromas and odors of the real world. He lowers his arms as his eyes adjust, the lush and vibrant colours begin to overwhelm the avian, enough for him to take a seat and ponder. "This is it? It's so..." He looked around, two little birds began to tweet and dance around each other in a fight, a tango of territorial dominance that whizzed past Gryph's face. The sun crossed the line of leaves and began to dim, enough to be appreciated. "...beautiful." His gaze shifts to the sunset, his face lighting with glee, hope, a new chance at life. He takes his first steps on free ground since his old life began, a more-than-warm white rock that dug into moist mud. The outside, having been out of reach for all these years, is now at his clawtips. He spreads his wings for the second time, the malformed feathers from the scars of restraint having grown to their natural position, and walk away into a new life.
A simple portrait that I am so happy with, I can't even express words for how good Gryph looks. You can almost see the smile that's hiding on his beak as he stands there, it's beautiful.
