On the last day of her stay at the gene clinic, the now fully changed rabbit-hybrid woman enjoys a cup of coffee at one of the clinic's cafes. Over the past few decades, transformations like hers have become increasingly commonplace, and she's eager to show off her new form in public.

mickeyila a while back- I just commissioned the character and made the background. This is a sequel image to the one at: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/47791846/

This clinic actually offers all sorts of different gene edits- anti-aging, improved senses, gender changes, and so on. Their most popular transgenic package by far is this rex rabbit hybrid form, though they offer a few other alternatives as well as more expensive custom changes.
I like the idea of the clinic mostly offering woodland-themed transformations- if something like this existed today, there would definitely be a lot of demand for cheetahs, dragons, and so on, but in this future culture, adopting a form related to local wildlife could be seen as more tasteful and sophisticated.
After a transformation, the patients' immune systems develop a powerful immunity to the retroviruses used to deliver new genetics, which makes their first change effectively permanent- going back to human or to a different species would require dangerous immunosuppressants. As a result, most people are reluctant to choose really unusual forms- they want a form that will let them fit and and be comfortable for the rest of their lives. That, plus the fact that people will only be able to have children with members of their new species means that most people adopt one of a small handful of very popular forms- rabbits, deer, foxes and so on.
On the west coast of North America, where this clinic is located, rabbits are the most popular- in part because of the area's vibrant rabbit-hybrid sub-culture.

I have a solution to that that doesn't require immunosuppressants!
