Just a random thing I came up with, that I rather like. I paused all the instruments however, and recorded me bringing in each one so that you can hear what all I added in.
Yes..that is my oh so crappy voice you hear sing two notes x.x; I like the idea of that..but I think I'll have one of my friends that can sing..do that for me.
This is how all my crap sounds before I actually make it longer..and stuff, this basically in a nutshell is just the outline.

I don't know what to say really lol..
The piece is quite good just not enough there but the short repeating phases.
Im trying to picture if all the instuments you are useing are real or not O.o For in the begining you can really hear the Reverb there and not sure if that can be helped or not..
It sounds good so far. :P Just a quick question is this the intro, phase, or chorus? For since there isn't much there already seeing how all the instuments lead in I say its an intro/phase.
^^ I hope you make more of this so i can then comment more throughly.

Before I go about making a whole piece I come up with something like this as the baseline of what I want most of it to sound like. More or less, me just mucking around with what sounds good to me.
The application I use to make all my music stuffs is called Thumbjam, its for iphone/ipod touch, a lot of the instruments are actual recorded samples from actual artists.
As for the reverb, that was my fault, when you record something as a whole..the settings you apply to the actual piece itself..applies double to the recording. I forgot to turn that off. But to me, without a little echo, it sounds too flat and bland.
I honestly have no idea what part of this song this is, I haven't gotten that far :P But thank you ^^ I will be sure to work on this more..and submit a better..version.

I do that alot where I just come up with a short melody then progress from there. After all that is how many songs are made.
Though I never concider thouse to be wips for the reason that 90% are just so random they have no flow what so ever and then you get stuck with it. and eventrully burry it deep in the folder grave yard untill you come up with something that may fit that piece months latter XD (how I know this? you don't wana see my pc lol)
Because of this little fact is why i don't like to comment on little shorts like this for the direction it can take is endless and its hard to see from the creators point of veiw how it will turn out. :P
XD and I know what you mean by double the effects. happens with me in Sonar. The program I use to record with. I agree that reverb does do alot though rule of thumb: IF you can hear it, it's too much. The trick is to have it and not even notice it untill you just turn it off. Then everything blends more smoothly..
:P I do hope you work on this more so i can then comment again. So far I like it though again. The possibliities are endless.

Well, I consider all my music crap work in progresses, because I almost always finish them, or put them to some use. Even if they stay in the program for months, I always go back, because I always think of something else to add.
All my music starts out like this. Short little segments.
The thing on the reverb, is I couldn't hear it, I just forgot to turn that off when recording, xD
But..righto, at the moment, I'm kinda..brain farting..but I'll work on it when I get slapped in the face with inspiration :P

You need to synchronize the bass (the first instrument that plays) to the beat. It's not terribly noticeable, but I can tell that it doesn't quite keep rhythm. In addition, the singing/flutes you bring in later are too quiet, as they're being drowned out by the cello/violin. Other than that it's a nice little piece, and you should keep running with it.
I'm in control of all the instruments..and I easily get frustrated when I can't hit the notes the way I want too, so I just went with the bassline that I managed to make sound sorta like what I wanted, without screwing up too much, I will change that haha :P
As for the singing (there is no flute, that other wispy instrument you hear is a sweeping synth) I can make that louder, but I drowned it out for a reason, I dislike my voice, therefor, I didn't want to hurt other peoples ears with it.
Thank you ^^

in some software programs you can actrully use your computer keyboard like a mini piano keyboad like for example. Press the "A" key and it will be C note "W" C# "S" D and "E" D# so on and so forth.
This can enable you to play using your keyboard. Using the Magic of midi some programs will record what you play. (this is live recording even though it isn't true audio)
Then there is step recording. This is where you are given a large piano roll or even a staff to look at with a few notes and rests. You then draw where on the staff you want the note and then play it back to create a score.
:P was curious what method you used..
