In one of my stories a goat got shifted to wolf. She had to get used to the idea of eating meat. Then again, she was 87 when it happened and she got turned into an 18 year old wolf so, has to eat meat, got perky boobs again and it cured a genetic condition.
It's a little more complicated, but that was her take away.

So how exactly would you imagine a hoof changing into a paw like this? Is it like just melting into the claws, or softening into the flesh?
Personally I've always viewed hooves as "Built-in biological shoes" due to them not having any nerve endings and thus no sense of touch, so what I've always imagined is that the hoof cracks and bursts open to reveal the paw, treating it like a shoeburst in of itself.
