How Did We Get Here: Beaumont
It's hard to believe that Beaumont was a bright-eyed kid once. The rumors about the island had not yet started when he was offered a ticket. No, he and the 33 other boys who went there right after Moth's involvement were the reason boys warned each other that nobody who went to Il Paese dei Balocchi ever returned. Even then, the allure of freedom was too much to be ignored.

This would be somewhere around 1875, 15 years before Candle passed through.
In a way. A certain employee had a relationship with a certain fae and came up with the idea to curse the water to make the island’s natural effect permanent. There was a contract involved, of course. The boys kept their human lifespan after the magic took hold, so buyers assumed it was just a trait that asses from that stock had.

Not exactly. The magic was always there on the island, even before Moth came into the picture. The problem is the magic was only temporary then, more of a prank cast by the wild magic to teach people a lesson. Moth twisted that magic and turned it into an enduring curse. From what I understand, it's something she regrets greatly, but she can't do much about it now because she was inexperienced with the powers she was using to twist the magic in the first place at the time and can't undo the spell now.
