Yes, they are plastic, but not foamies, that would be horrible >.< It's actually plastic from a trash bin specifically purchased for this purpose. To make them rounder, a heatgun was used to form them around a cylindrical object. The material is very tough and keeps it's shape quite well.

they look like EVA- its a thermal plastic you can buy as thin sheets.
It sjust kids crafting foam :) (usually sold as the brand FOAMIES or something like that at micheals for a few cents a sheet. it ranges in thickness from a few MM, to a few inches.) its easily shaped and retains its shape as it cools as long as you're holding it in that shape. its very maleable and must be anchored to maintain the shape at least until cool.

Hey I guess this is real old now but I just wanted to say thinks for posting things like this, like I know there are, possibly literally at this point, a billion fursuit tutorials on the internet but it's really helpful in a different way to be able to see parts of the process for somebody's work that was you know inspirational for you and like that you knew turned out great.
Christ that sounds like I'm asking someone to prom. You are the wind beneath my wings I guess is what I'm trying to say? OH GOD THAT'S NOT BETTER. ABORT ABORT ABORT
KEEP UP GOOD WORK

The two main adhesives I used on foam were hot glue and super 77. Hot glue will create a fantastic bond, although it takes a while to dry and will become hard, which can get in the way of cutting. Super 77 will create a great flexible bond, not as strong, but I use it for most of the bonds.
