ACT 07- OBLIVION, After you finish this chapter, it will be clear why I went with ‘oblivion’.
Author’s Commentary
The Psionic Purge Krystal used was not 100% effective, as evidenced in this chapter. This is due to Krystal not being a Krazoa, and her ability to wield the power given to her is neither as adept or as powerful. Her mastery over the ability is fragile and had a Krazoa used the Psionic Purge instead everyone inside the Stronghold would have been killed, and much more quickly. It would have been near instant death for the victims. Using the Psionic Purge, even poorly, was still enough to give Fox a chance to make his way inside the Temple to reach her. As I wrote her reaction to having used the PP I wanted to illustrate a hysterical reaction. Krystal is a teenage girl under incredible pressure, and she’s not a violent killer. By switching between her POV and Fox’s I hoped to show the reader her grief at having taken so many lives, but also show Fox’s confusion and concern over how someone could make dozens of men drop dead where they stand.
But, hey! We finally get that boss fight between Fox and Scales! Remember that in the original game you only got a fake fight that ends as soon as you attack Scales, which triggers a cutscene where Andross steals the last Krazoa Spirit from Scales and kills him. I also used this fight as a way to have Krystal participate in her own rescue as opposed to being simply a damsel. The staff weapon as it is used in the story so far is both a weapon and a ‘key card’ that the Krazoa could use. My inspiration was from Stargate with the staff weapons of the Goa’uld. When Krystal fires the staff at Scales, I imagined it having a very satisfying ‘impact’ on anything it hits, much like in StarGate.
Lastly, I wrote the ending scene multiple times in an effort to get it as close to how I imagined it happening in my head. I hope that it was as impactful for you to read it as it was for me having written it.

It was about time that Fox and Krystal met, although not in the best conditions.
I think it's the first time I read a representation of Krystal's psychic abilities as something scary because of what Krystal did with that ability called Psionic Purge.
P.S: For some reason I find it somewhat difficult to read this story, you don't know how many times I have to read the chapters without getting frustrated by not being able to imagine the scenarios and situations.
