Here is a spoke shave I made recently. The blade is made from a piece of coil spring while the body of tool is made from a piece of apple wood I got from a dead branch from the apple tree in the back yard.
This was a fun project to make and I think it is my best piece yet.
The body of the spoke shave has thumb grooves that give a good bit of comfort when holding the tool.
I really like the beautiful colour this wood has to offer.

Niiice! I used to have a miniature spoke shave which I used to shape wood on the models I'd build. I used a 1" single edge razor blade in the device and had two thumbscrews hold the blade in place. -Not quite as elegant as your design, but it worked.
I like your choice of apple wood for the handle, which gives the tool a warm, "Old style" charm.
