I intentionally designed Gradient to be a bit different from the normal symbiote design and the biggest difference is obviously the lack of eyes. Gradient is supposed to be unreadable and as humans we rely on the the queues from the people we talk to based primarily on when they eyes are doing. And with The Royalty's Left Hand, she can't be read easily.
