As far as I can figure out, Hollywood forgot Canada exists. Again.
It happens a lot. Unless there's a place to run to "for safety", as if Canada would be somehow immune to whatever threat is going on.

The most realistic example of this is The Forever Purge where Canada and Mexico opened their borders to unarmed refugees after a bunch of nutjobs decided that one night of wholesale murder a year wasn't enough and they weren't going to stop just because the government told them to.
Canada at least has a bunch of empty land, so you can spread out more and it's harder for whatever threat to kill *everyone* at the same time, giving you more time to prepare countermeasures.

Also the name for the children's Hockey Teams Timmies supports throughout the country. Friend of mine, mascot for the local hockey team, got beaten up by them every year. Then got called a Furry by me.
