Hey people -
What you are looking at is the front seat of a Kenworth T2000 - it's a semi.
This is also my desktop!
I connect to the internet using a cell phone modem that gives me around 9600 baud most of the time.
I have been driving today since 4am - and I decided to log onto FA for a second while we were fueling.
THIS IS THE REASON I AM SO SLOW WITH RESPONSES (They wont let me keep the laptop on the wheel when I drive for some reason :P )
I love you guys, I love your work, I really love your comments and actually chatting with you - and I will catch up with everything as soon as I can.
If you have any questions - feel free to ask!

BOUNTY HUNTING?
Talk about a job I wouldn't expect anyone in the furry fandom to have!
They sell mounts at the truckstops, but they attach to the base of the gearshift and run about 250$ (everything at the truckstops is overpriced).
VERY COOL - could you tell me more about your job? How dangerous is it?

Dangerous nuff XD cant really use a gun though they give you a large fire extinguisher like can of mace, [which you must be spraied in the face with before you can use it v.v and trust me, it stings] gotta call the police and tell them what your doing, then hope they dont go to pick up your target before you get to it or you lose the money. I dont do it much anymore, but I used to run in a lincoln continental so I looks like I was a real cop 99% of the time. but since I blew the motor on the parkway I havent done much more hunting. it is fun thouth ^^ really enjoied the 120 MPH runs on the parkway and the troopers leave ya be.
That's freaking cool - but sounds like the money is inconsistant
Smiths - those are the black trucks with the Harley Davidson looking symbol on the side, right?
If you like driving, you'll love this job. I've never enjoyed a job as much as I enjoy this one.
The biggest problem is it's easy to get out of touch out here, or lonely if you don't have someone else along (I drive team, so I have the best of both worlds :)

I'm currenty at home in Rochester, NY; I drive Regional for JB Hunt out of Albany NY in the New England area: New York, Pennsyvania, New Jersey, Connecticuit, Massacusits (sp?), and Vermont. I drive a white 2004 Freightliner Century Class midroof. (still can't figure out where to put the pool table...)
:)
:)
Oh man, you do NE regional? I love the area up there, but I HATE driving it.
Last time I picked up in Massachusettes (I can't spell it either), we were sent to a yogurt plant that you could only access by taking 20 miles of 2 lane, overgrown, trees tearing the hell out of the top of the cab backroad :P
How do you like the freightliner? Have you ever driven a Columbia?

only driven a columbia during my training days, been in the century class the rest of the time, they're not bad, although i prefer the condo tractor to the midroof, because i am tall and keep hitting my head on the roof of the midroof truck.
as far as lousy gigs go, i had to pick up eggs from an egg farm, and i was not prepared for how bad it stunk! lots of chickens = lots of chicken sh*t! it both curled and burnt out my nose hairs! nasty!
i work for JB Hunt, on the dedicated Wal-Mart account, so i only deliver to Wal-mart and Sam's club stores with an occasional backhaul; not bad work really, i'm out for 5 days and home 2 every week, usually on the same days.
you said you are OTR; are you coast to coast or do you have a particular region? Who's your team driver?

The egg thing - we regularly do IBP (which is a meat load) - nothing smells quite as magical as a cattle or pig processing plant. I have decided it smells most like burnt hair.
You have a nice schedule. We run 7 weeks out, 7 days home.
We do all 48 and Canada - and I drive with my fiancee.
We are seriously thinking about changing companies to do dry box, and they run Freightshaker Columbias. Thanks for the info!

Last summer I was working at the Eastbound BP in Elkhart at mile 90. Might have seen you anyway, haha.
I've got a SonyEricsson W710i phone that I link up with a bluetooth dongle to my laptop. No wires, all pipe. I've yet to use it in an EDGE or 3G network, but I imagine the speed would be excellent. The speed I get is enough to do Google Earth and Lowfi streaming radio stations, so I won't complain.

Yeah, nothing like satellite and aerial views of where you're trying to find a cache, haha.
Seux drew my AV but she recently deleted almost her whole page from FA. http://www.furaffinity.net/user/seux and http://swampmonster.atspace.com/

Yeah, I'm not sure why she took it all down, seems she's not open to discussing it.
As a warning, the picture contains explicit homosexual content so if that's not your thing you may not want to look. I've got it posted at http://voidmind.com/commish/1170693.....issiondone.jpg
Geocaching is terrific fun. It requires a GPS unit and a connection to http://www.geocaching.com so you can get GPS coordinates for new caches. You take your GPS coords out and try to find the spot. Some are chains where you'll find new coords written down and some are well hidden caches. Some are neat things to see. Most of them have a little log book to sign as evidence that you were there. I've been to several that took two people to find, well hidden as they were. ^^

Hehe, I had that one commissioned of my characters Ikaris and Satori. I'm really happy with how it turned out, hehe.
Yeah, caching is really fun, but it usually requires a good bit of footwork. The advantage to driving a truck is that you can take travelbugs around to new locations. I can also imagine a GPS being useful for navigation. ^^

I'd read there was a lot of work done 'recently' on the subject of mufflers for compression brakes.
Is the situation with compression brakes sort of the same thing with motorcyclists? There are mufflers for V-twins that make them practically silent, but the Hell's Angels wannabies run straight pipes and rattle windows at the drop of a hat.

Yes, it's along the same lines. In our Kenworth the sound is extremely muffled, so you can't even tell if we're running with it on.
Some owner/operators put strait pipes on their rigs specifically so it's loud as hell. They do sometimes have a very good reason for it tho - When you see another driver starting to drift (aka, falling asleep at the wheel), hitting your air horn to startle them awake can make them freak and swing into the other lane - so instead they can turn on their jake and let go of the fuel - it's loud enough to jar anyone awake, but without making you think it's an oncoming truck honking at you.
So, it's good and bad, but unless it's an extreme situation, they're just annoying

its kinda like something out of the future car show on the discovery channel. eventualy cars of the future will drive them selves and you are left to your own devices... such as a laptop where the setering colum is.
I can just imagine the point and click emergency stering of a video game in futureistic cars/trucks I can drive the jeep in BF2 with a joystick so i dont think it would be to much to adapt those skills to flying down the interstate hehe.
I have to say, you have a neat profession. I was thinking about truck driving before i went to college but at that time i didnt even have a normal licens and I usualy tend to sleep a full 8 hours after a long haul. I fell asleep at least twice a day in the cap of the uhaul my step dad was driving when we moved from Az to Ky...

This will be the last job I ever have :)
Keeping awake is kind of an important thing with this job - I've seen many, many accidents due to fatigue (that and ice on the road - 26 trucks in the ditch in Nebraska during the last big storm).
It's a job with a lot of responsibility, but it's the best one I've ever had :)

XM 202 - The ViRuS - Opie and Anthony, The quote was from their third mic, Jimmy Norton (foul mouth comedian), to a caller that was raving about how bad Jimmy was on the show (which he isn't) and that he was worthless and not needed (which again he should stay a part of the O&A show). The full line of that quote to the caller was "I don't care if you throw your XM down the toilet, buy a Serius and then fuck your mother." In other news, yes I'm an avid O&A listener (aka An O&A Pest).
Channel 202
I'm a dedicated listener :) (bought a Pioneer Inno (portable XM) so I could hear the entire show each day :) )
and I remember that bit too--even the one where they got a kid to recite Jimmy's lines. Hope to sit in on the studio audience one week.

Damn, I missed most of this conversation....I feel left out. :-P
Cool pic though. Sound like you got a better setup than I do. I just sit on the top bunk with my laptop on my bed. OH well, I got a KW T-600........so the space is lacking. But I love it anyways. I am OTR, 48. I live near the Seattle area, but my home away from home is in Indianapolis........and I keep getting sent to damn NE. Nice area....just sucks to drive in, especially in PA. TOO many close calls in that state.
OH well, cool.....I should look for something that would let my laptop sit on the steering wheel like that, would make this allot easier.
