Alex tossed the green ball in her gloved hand while she got into a stance with her legs spread apart ever so slightly. The rubberized handle on her racket let out a creak as she tightened her grip around it. Once the ball came down from the air, she caught it and threw it back up again, all without even looking at her hand or the ball. She eyed her opponent with a stern and intimidating look spread on her face, mostly carried out through her eyes and brows. She let out a soft exhale as she slowly chewed on something.
“Hoooooh…” sweat beads rolled off her forehead and dripped onto the ground. After a few throws, she switched to bouncing the ball like a basketball.
‘Thonk. Thonk. Thonk. Thonk.’
Tennis was mostly a game of strength and agility, but what fun would a sport be without some intimidation from afar? Sure, it’s a valid tactic to have your opponent underestimate your ability, but why give them the chance to look down on you when they can instead psyche themselves out just from the way you look at them? The tigress continued to bounce the tennis ball in her hand against the floor of the tennis court for a few seconds before she suddenly stopped and stared at her opponent in complete silence. Her green eyes were so sharp they could pierce the soul, and her sharp teeth were able to probably pierce flesh, too. After a few moments, the tigress tossed the green ball up into the air, swung her tennis racket back, and then swung it forward toward the falling ball.
‘Thwock!’ the green ball cut through the air, flew over the net, and bounced on the ground on the opposite side of the court where her opponent was. Her opponent, totally unprepared for the high velocity of the ball lunging toward him after the silent intimidation tactic from the tigress, panicked, ran quickly to the ball, and swung his racket to hit it back to the tigress’ side. His hit was weaker than Alex’s but that was because he wasn’t as avid of a player as she was.
‘Thwack!’
After returning Alex’s serve, he already seemed out of breath; his hands were on both his knees and he was breathing heavily as he watched the tigress effortlessly make her way over to the ball he shot at her and shoot it right back at him.
‘Thwock!’ When he saw how hard the tigress had hit the ball toward him again, he muttered an explicative under his breath, “Fuck.” pushed himself up straight, and dashed over to hit it back in her direction. “Hyuh!” he let out a grunt as he swung his racket and launched the tennis ball through the air. He watched as it only barely made it passed the net and bounced once before the striped feline hit it back over to him again without even breaking a sweat. When Alex swung her green and gray marbled racket against the ball, she didn’t let out any grunts, groans, or moans at all. Her jaw moved as she chewed her bubblegum, her tail floated around behind her as she zipped across the court at an incredible speed, and her skirt hiked up her thigh just enough to show an extra stripe on her inner thigh each time she hit the ball.
Distracted by the tiniest skirt hike in the world, Alex’s opponent was a little slow to run in the direction where the bright green ball was headed. He launched himself as fast as he could when he realized his mistake and swung his racket with his arm outstretched as far as it could go, but the only thing he caught with his Wilson was air.
‘Fwoosh.’
The green ball bounced on his side for the second time and rolled off to the back of the court. He grumbled, tilted his head back, and let out a sigh as he looked up at the sky. He stood still for a few seconds before he looked to Alex, who had walked over to the net and was leaning against it while she chewed her bubblegum obnoxiously loudly.
“How do you suck so bad?” Alex said with a chuckle as the sound of her chewing gum echoed in the court. She then blew a nice big bubble in her gum while she looked at her tennis pal with raised brows. Her bubblegum bubble grew large enough to obscure most of her muzzle from view before it burst with a loud pop and she used her tongue to get it all back in her mouth.
‘Pop!’
Alex’s tennis buddy rolled his eyes and shrugged his shoulder. “You’re basically a professional, I only ever play when I come over to your place.” He shook his head and turned on his heels to walk and grab the tennis ball that rolled away. Once he grabbed the ball, he walked back to the tigress leaning over the net, and handed the ball over to her. Alex looked at the arm that he extended out to her and shook her head. “Nah, you serve. Maybe that’ll give you an edge.” She smirked at him. “Maybe you can do one of those super cool ping-pong serves you are always talking about.” She waggled her eyebrows at him and let out a chuckle.
“That’s not how it works, Alex. That’s table tennis. You know this and table tennis are two different things, right?” he let out a bit of a chuckle, too, pulled his hand with the ball in it away from Alex, and began tossing it up and down in his hand the same way Alex did when she was the one dishing out the serve.
Alex smirked as she watched her friend walk away and stood there staring at his poor imitation of her intimidation tactics. They were comically bad but entertaining. After a few seconds of watching, she pushed herself off the net and skipped her way back into position at the baseline. She confidently twirled her racket around in her hand like a sword as she waited for him to make his serve in a partial squat position.
Her opponent’s intimidation tactics didn’t last very long, and within a couple of seconds of Alex getting into place, while she was still twirling her tennis racket in her hand, he threw the ball up into the air and hit the ball over to the other side. He hit it as hard as he could, causing the ball to rip through the air so fast he could barely see where it went. Luckily, it landed in Alex’s service box. Despite Alex being a little too overconfident with the racket twirling, her keen tiger senses were able to let her know that the ball was on its way. She quickly moved up to the ball and hit it right back across to the other side of the court.
‘Thwack!’
This time around, Alex was a little less aggressive with her returns since she wanted them to go back and forth for a little longer than three times.
‘Thwock!’
‘Thwack!’
‘Thwock!’
Alex and her tennis sparring partner had a back-and-forth alright, a long one. And while the tigress wasn’t easy to wear out, her opponent who was panting and heaving heavily was still able to keep up, even if it was just barely. The tigress hit back, each time expecting him to not be able to return, but he did every time. She started to feel the burn; her legs aching just a smidge and sweat rolling off her forehead in beads that just kept reappearing.
“Getting tired, too, huh?” her friend chuckled through his pants for breath as he swung his racket to hit the ball into Alex’s court.
