RIP Larry Storch
July 8th was an expensive day for the celebrity world.
The 60s comedic actor, Larry Storch passed away in his sleep at the good life of 99 (Shame he didn't crack that century number). Everybody remembers Larry best as Corporal Randolph Agarn from the series F-Troop. Larry was also the last cast member from the show to pass away.
Larry was a regular on various TV shows, like Get Smart, Mannix, CHIPs, All in the Family, Car 54 where are you?
But he also was heavy into voice acting various cartoon roles, like Cool Cat, the Groovy Ghoulies, Tennessee Tuxedo, The Inspector.
But I will always associate him with that bent brim Cavalry hat from F-Troop.

Cool Cat? I hope it was some OTHER Cool Cat than the one I'm thinking of.

Oh hell no, this is Cool Cat from the 60s by Warners in its animation death spiral.

Lets not forget he was also one of the original Ghostbusters(the name rights were later bought from Filmation for the classic 1980s movie). He played Spencer on the campy ghost busting comedy TV show from 1975. Forrest Tucker also co starred with Larry in the Ghostbusters show just as they did together on F Troop. Those two were an excellent comedic pair now sadly both gone.
That show was called The Ghost Busters (two words, not one.) Filmation combined the words to ride on the success of the movie, which is why the movie-spin-off cartoon was called The Real Ghostbusters (also, in TRGB, the movies existed as a dramatization of the 'real life' of the cartoon.)
The main reason it flopped was because it was trying to steal attention from The Real Ghostbusters, as well as the fact that the target demographic had never heard of The Ghost Busters (I only found about the original show YEARS after the cartoon stopped. Only THEN did the ape make sense to be there. Well, as much sense as the original show made.)
That statement is redundant.
Filmation was FAMOUS for heavy reliance on 'stock footage.' The old joke was that, after the first two episodes, each show was only allotted two seconds (24 frames at 12 frames/second) of new animation, everything else had to re-use the existing cells and backgrounds.

> Cause I wanted to do one of those funny things, like on - you ever watch F Troop? Where Agarn says "There's no way I'm wearin' a dress! Absolutely not! No dress!" And Forrest Tucker's like, "Yeah, you're wearin' that dress! You're gonna wear that dress!" And they wipe and Agarn's wearin' a dress!

Mr Whoopee and his Three Dimensional Blackboard. Gently explaining how things work to Tennessee Tuxedo and Chumley. Also played Marlon the Mynah Bird and almost all of the non Brady male characters in The Brady Kids. Storch was the voice of General Halftrack in a 1980s animated Beetle Bailey special for CBS but network politics left the special unaired.
Storch started out as a celebrity voice mimic and singer in the 1940s.

Nice tribute. Had the honor of meeting him once while stationed at Pearl Harbor on Oahu, where he lived at the time. He was as funny in real life as on the screen, and an all-around great guy. They don't make them like him anymore. And your other tributes to those who helped shape our lives is also very thoughtful.
I used to live a few houses away from Lee Marvin in Tucson. And the one thing I learned from him, was if you treat them as a person, not a celebrity, (IE: Ask for autographs or take their photos) you'll go farther in interacting with them. He was always a friendly gentleman around me, plus had a wicked sense of humor too.
I deeply miss him.
And Thanks for the comment on the tributes. Some of them are hard to do, cause that person ment something to me, others , mainly cause they were part of history, life or our daily lives. Sadly I've missed a few folks over the years cause life interrupts, or theres too many at once or in a few cases, didn't even hear about it til later (Hardy Kruger is a prime example). Sadly a few trolls also slam me for these, referring them as "Grasps for attention" and "Dead People Parade", and a few just can't just shut the hell up and turn it into their own Twitter bitch post. (see the Limbaugh tribute)
And a few folks ride my ass cause I missed some person who passed away when I literally never even heard of the person. (Had one fur get very upset I didn't do a tribute to some on-line gamer who OD'd, not my thing.)

I got to kinda rub elbows with him at the Ocean City DooDah parade when he was grand marshal, particularly at the publicity luncheon in NYC. He used to play saxophone in Riverside Park just for fun. His IMDB of cartoon voices is a mile long!
