The roaring applause of the crowd fills her ears the moment she pushes aside the huge golden curtains and steps out onto the stage, reaching a fever pitch as she saunters across the smooth, polished hardwood floor towards the microphone stand that sat at the front as if it was awaiting her arrival. Her stride is confident, purposeful, and poised, trying her best to look the very definition of determined and ready despite the underlying prickle of nerves in the pit of her stomach. This wasn’t her first rodeo being the main star of the show and having the limelight focused on her, but still… Having been named one of the club’s primary featured performers and among one of the most requested singers that people flocked to see, it was hard not to feel at least somewhat pressured to put on an absolutely stunning performance that the audience was surely expecting from her…
But this wasn’t just a job for her, it was her main passion and a big part of why she’d wanted to work here in the first place. One of the few things in life that she truly enjoyed doing more than anything, which she poured all of her heart and soul into and spread that same excitement and mirth to so many others who came to watch and listen to her.
Flaring her feathery wings out in a graceful little flourish as she approached the mic stand, drawing a few whistles and shouts from the crowd, the half demon closes her eyes only for a brief second and takes a deep breath in anticipation. A bright red spotlight shines on her as a hush falls over the audience and plunges the entire room into almost complete silence, broken only moments later as the band behind her starts playing. First the drummer starts striking out a jaunty sounding beat on the toms and snare, joined only seconds later by the soft, melodious tones of the piano and the combined humming thrums of the guitar and the bass either side of her. Only the trombonist and saxophonist don't immediately jump in just yet as they stood off to the far side of the stage, patiently awaiting their part to come as they simply tapped their shoes in time with the rhythm.
The musicians easily kept pace with each other as if it were second nature using only their finely tuned ears and communicating only through momentary glances whenever they had to adjust the tempo, honed through years of countless rehearsals and performances together. Now they just waited for her to join in on her part... she could feel the eyes of both the band and the crowd boring into her as they watched on with bated breath
Grabbing the microphone and unhooking it from the stand, she holds it up close to her lips as she awaits her part… Letting her eyes slip closed as she focuses on just feeling and taking in the music, everything else seeming to fall away from around her for a few moments. The stage, the band, the audience, and the club in its entirety became little more than white noise in the background, her concentration centering in on herself and the harmony of the instruments around her. In those precious few moments, any lingering anxiety that still weighed heavily on her shoulders eased and finally dissipated just as it was her time to jump in. Fingers tightening around the microphone in her hand in preparation, she opens her eyes once more... and begins to sing. Her silken, mellow voice flows into the song as smoothly as two rivers converging in on each other to form into one, practically crooning the first lines of the lyrics with an almost sultry sounding rasp.
“Lay where you’re laying,
Don’t make a sound...
I know they're watching,
They're watching...”
As the song progresses throughout and the tempo picks up or slows down, her voice follows along in perfect tandem. She’d keep her timbre consistent throughout the verses, occasionally letting it drop at certain parts for a bit more emphasis and transitioning into a lower, huskier, almost growly sounding tone. And when they’d hit the chorus, her voice would soar upwards to belt out those high notes with a striking but expertly controlled intensity. Her silvery voice soared loftily and practically filled the space around her, further uplifted by the low, droning buzz as the trombone and baritone saxophone joined in at last to play their parts and complete the harmony. All the while, the lynx’s body was moving almost instinctively along to the music, her hips swaying to and fro in a sassy sort of swagger as her feet tap and stomp in sync with the beat, matching the energy of the song toe-to-toe the whole way.
All around, she could hear a resounding chorus of numerous other voices and tones joining in as members of the crowd who recognized the lyrics jumped in to sing along with her. Her violet eyes sparkled with a wild, fervent joy as she swept her hand up and out in a wide, almost beckoning gesture, further inciting and stoking the spirit of the spectators with her own infectious enthusiasm.
She was deep into her element now, ebbing and flowing with the cadence of the music as her body jives with it almost automatically, relying purely on muscle memory while the rest of her was simply along for the ride. And what a pleasant ride it was… There was no persisting sense of nervousness, shame, or fear haunting her whatsoever, all she could feel now was that surging thrill and boundless sense of joyous ecstasy as she poured her very heart and soul into the performance as she always did whenever she was put on center stage. And as she would always continue to do for every single one of her shows until she just couldn’t perform anymore, or until the world itself would finally come to an end with the apocalypse's deathly arrival. Whichever came first...
Something of an overdue special commission featuring my precious half demon lynx lady doing what she does and loves best: singing and performing! As a performer at the local cabaret club near where she lives, singing and dancing is both her passion and her job, something that she absolutely enjoys doing and always pours her excitement and enthusiasm into! She does take requests sometimes too if there's a particular song that you'd like for her to do, all you have to do is ask nicely, of course. What would you want to ask for her to sing?
Also if anyone knows the particular song that those particular lyrics referenced is from, help yourself to a cookie~ x3

Gatewayeee!! They also did an alternate version of this piece to make it look like an actual cabaret poster that you'd see advertising a performance! You can find it over on their page here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/47675509/
Hell, even just go to check out their page in general and give them a watch if you like the work they do! And consider commissioning them as well, they do such good quality art for a decent price! I encourage you to give an artist who does really awesome work your support! <333

Oh absolutely, haha~ Her voice is certainly quite melodic with a good range, she could growl like a beast when singing rock and metal or strike those high notes like an opera singer on Broadway!
She also takes audience requests sometimes when she's performing on stage, so if you asked her, she'd be happy to serenade you with your particular song of choice~ ^^

Cabaret Club was a different kind of scene, one classier then she was use to or caught in. Deep brown claws bounced along the table in a steady rhythm. The day had not been what was expected. Stressed from work and home situations, she was pissed, but had a commitment to keep. It was only when the musicians began to play, in tempo with each other after the hard work of practice, accompanied by the only voice she came to hear, did she slowly feel the ebbing anger disperse. It mattered not the song, nor music- strange as it had the weird effect to always relax her. But this was never about her, it was the one on stage, her limelight. It was alright if she played support, she was good at it.
